Thank you for that.

How do I put it in DFU mode please (I didn't jailbreak it!)?

I have just plugged it into my mac (without power) and iTunes is offering to restore it. Will that unjailbreak it or mess things up?

Trouble with DFU mode

I am also trying to unjailbreak my AppleTV (AppleTV 2 iOS 5.1). I am having trouble entering DFU mode. I had trouble when jailbreaking as well, however I forget how I finally got there. I think it was just repeated trying that finally worked but it is getting me nowhere now. As I understand it, I need to connect the AppleTV to my computer and hold down the menu and down button on the remote for around 6 or 7 seconds then release. I've also heard to try only releasing the down button and press the play button along with the continued pressed menu button for 6 or 7 seconds. Additionally I have tried simply pressing the Menu and Play buttons simultaneously for around 6 or 7 seconds. Unplugging and restarting all of these processes in different orders has not resulted in any success of the AppleTV appearing in iTunes. All of the attempts result in the AppleTv starting to blink semi rapidly as soon as I press down on the remote. It is an about twice per second blink as opposed to the about one per second blink scene immediately after plugging in, but not as fast as I've seen it get while jailbreaking, when it looks like it is almost solid because it is flashing so fast. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?

You don't really need to get to DFU to "unJailbreak" a normal restore would do the trick for you.

Now if you really want to enter DFU mode for whatever reason, your issue must be timing, some ATVs are trickier than other to get into DFU, due to the lag on the remote, interference, etc. You just have to keep trying until you get it. Search for Youtube videos so you can see the timing.

Another thing to try: some ATV's need to have the power connected to properly enter DFU mode. For most you can get by with just the USB connection, but it's not a guarantee. I've jailbroken three of them so far, and one was being incredibly stubborn - until I plugged in the power. After that, it was all smooth sailing!

100% incorrect

There is NOT way to enter DFU mode using power connected. if you want DFU don't connect the power

If the power is connected you can only get into recovery mode (not DFU)

I guess than that my issue is that my AppleTV is not appearing in iTunes. There is nothing under devices (in fact "devices" isn't appearing at all). I've tried the usb port on both sides of my MacBook Pro and my iTunes is updated to the most recent version. Any idea why it wouldn't appear?

Same problem for me

Hi all. Did anyone find a solution to this problem? It's the exact same for me :(

The important, and not natural action, is to connect the AppleTV to your Mac WITHOUT THE POWER CORD !
