Me too.

I agree, that in pictures it looks a lot nicer for some reason... but personally speaking there must be something weird about my eyes because I cannot look at white text on a black background for long before experiencing discomfort.

I certainly couldn't read a paragraph of text white on black.

As much as i'd like to use dark mode for the aesthetic and possibly battery saving benefits, its not something I can use - so its not for everyone - so I don't really see what all the fuss is about :)
I just think it needs to be toned down. More subtle.

Is the beta stable ? I’m tempted!
More about whether you commit to beta testing or not. In short, for me by far, except a few app crashes (expected), I don’t see anything dealbreaking or outright stops me from using the device. So I’d say it’s close to be stable.
Has anyone tried Dark Mode on a non-OLED display? How does it look? Does it hurt the battery?
It looks pretty much the same as in OLED display for me.

Same. Using dark mode too long hurts my eye. Hence the argument of text readability in dark mode. Sadly not many people care about this.

I dont think is a case of people not caring... its just that the majority seem not to be affected by this, and see dark mode as something exciting and welcome!

Let me try to explain how it is....

Imagine you are inside, and its really bright outside - you look at the window then quickly look away - you can still see the "image" of the window.

OK, so, for me (and others) when you read white text on a black background you get the same effect as you scan down the page. Very quickly you get so much visual noise caused by the 'after image' of the previous text it becomes unpleasant and uncomfortable and unreadable.

If there is a website that insists on having black background and white text I simply am unable to read it.

So, for some of us Dark Mode isn't something that we will be looking forward to or switching on. Nice to have the choice though - imagine if they had forced it on us in iOS13 and made it the new visual default with no way of switching it back.

Dark mode is something I've wanted for a while; iOS didn't used to be so blazing white back in the day; iOS 6 and before had a lot more intermediate shades in its design.

I remember when iOS 7 came out I was really annoyed at how blaringly white it was. Dark mode looks great and I'm looking forward to having it on my phone once the betas get more stable.

It is something different for the public. I’d be excited because honestly they coulda just added nothing like all the other iOS from earlier this year and late last

My current solution for this is the Dark Reader extension that works for Safari, Chrome, and Firefox: https://darkreader.org. It's $5 on the app store for Safari -- I think it's great.

This is interesting, but apparently the dark mode has to be invoked every time for every new page. There is a shortcut that does the same thing, at least on iOS 12. The Dark Reader I found on the App Store is only $0.99, so I hope it's the same one you're talking about.

The only $5 app I found is for the Mac via the Mac App Store.

Ohh ok — I should’ve been explicit that this was for Mac. I’ll check out the one you mention.

I’ve set it up on Mac to automatically turn on when I activate dark mode. You can also customize it for individual websites

Can’t do with dark mode on the Mac, looks like it suits the iPhone better, but we will see. Don’t care about battery life as I can get 2 days use on my XS Max.
