Him can anybody tell me what the function of this part next to the battery is.

There seems to be a bit broken off this part in the macbook I looked at this morning.

Screws hold it in place, but not tight. There is movement possible. But it doesn't seem to be some sort of sensor.

Help is greatly appreciated!

Could just be an alignment slot/retainer for the lower cover, do you see a tab on the inside of the bottom cover that lines up with it and would snap into place? I know the non-Retina MPBs have these, I just don't remember if that's what the female portion looks like.
