Does anyone know what this "private" file is that's being shown up by Whatsize?

I'm tidying up my HDD as I'm running out of space and this is nearly five gigs. 😕

Yeah, /private/var is a place where the system stores temp files and things like that, basically... including the swap file.

Or just restart your computer. That will get rid of any lingering temp files that don't need to be in there anymore.

Otherwise, STAY OUT OF THERE.

Ok advice heeded on that front. When I found it, I actually had visions of some joker telling me to delete the whole file and laughing across cyberspace.

Using Onyx and trashing a few other apps that I don't need anymore, I've recovered about four gigs, but it's definitely time for a new hard drive methinks.

Have you run delocalizer or some program of the sort? I saved over a gig on my MBP by removing foreign languages that I simply don't speak 🙂
