I find myself very fortunate. I can both praise and complain about iPhone/Android as I'm incredibly immersed in both.
Right now I'm finding that iOS 11 has caused me a lot of trouble. The Intel modem has given me a real headache.
However, I still find that bloatware can be overwhelming on Android that isn't vanilla. Rooting has become quite a bit more difficult with these locked bootloaders and security features such as Knox.
For now, my next device will be an Android but I won't rule out a future iPhone.
I started as a fangirl for Android but after trying iPhone, BlackBerry and a Windows phone, I think I have just learned to enjoy the different experiences.
I think bashing another OS without trying them is naive. I'm glad I was able to move past that and enjoy all technology at least once.

While true, iPhone “fans” are largely apathetic to what is happening in the android universe.
The inverse is not true.
Android “fans” are completely taken with the iPhone and consumers of Apple products. That aspect of it is weird and why there is a thread titled “what’s up with android fans”.

i love all my apple products, they cannot accept that and would literally punch me in the face for it.
to me windows and android is just cheap insecure mainstream crap for the masses.
then there are this "flagships" products which loose all their value after 2 years, if they last that long.
my phone is 8 years old my iPad 6, my macbook pro 6, my mac pro 8
they all just work
we have many more apple devices here, there is not one single button broken.
the quality is just off the charts

Most people don't care what you're using, they're just trying to eek out their meager existence before they die. Don't pretend either side has a huge number of problem people.

Android fans are more techie compared to the average iPhone user. IPhone users tend to go with whatever is popular and Android fans tend to research more. Because of that, Android fans have to be aware of what Apple does because it has a direct effect on the rest of the industry as a whole. It's not that difficult to understand.

I think it is part fueled by a culture within the Apple fanboy universe where iOS devices are the one product that has 'taken over the world' and as a result the fanboys behave like douchebags in celebration of Apple's success (why that success some how magically rubs off on them? I guess they see their purchase and Apple's success tied together aka 'I'm on the winning team'). For me it comes down to using the thing you like best - I've been using iPhone's for years and now I've moved over to using the Galaxy S8 Plus - use what is suitable for you and don't lecture to others as though you're some sort of soldier fighting for a 'team' that needs defending.

I never used a Windows Phone, but I will say this: I loved my Zune(s). Man, if only they would have made a Zune phone...

You making the statement you made with no context to be found isn't? You basically painted Android fans as obsessed lunatics with Apple fans being above it all. In reality, Apple fans as a whole don't care about the tech side of things. They just use whatever everyone else uses. Look at the IMessage blue vs green bubbles thing. Prime example of how peer pressure marketing can be very effectiv to certain people.

It is fun to watch people battle it out over something which does not matter at all.

I know you said this in a humorous way, but I would love a smartphone that had tight integration with my laptop running Windows 10.
I think the HP Elite x3 is a great concept. But Microsoft has abandoned Windows Mobile so killed the concept.
As for the haters, people make very strong emotional investments in their choices and take it very personally when someone else tells them they are wrong. If you doubt this, go look for some forums on professional sports or cars.

I’m on the same page as you, I think.
I started out enjoying some of the new features of iOS 11 but I’m very frustrated at the state of bloat that’s crept into iOS and iOS apps. This isn’t the streamlined tightly efficient operating system environment that Steve imposed where a device with modest specs could run circles around the heavily specced competition. Perhaps in artificial tests that’s true, but I’m talking about my day to day living and use of the devices. There is some laggy behavior and some freezing and some crashing and possibly still a drain on battery. And illogical choices in evidence such as putting a commonly used display settings control under Accessibility instead of the display category.
So while I was very excited about the IPhone X, and still think it’s special and lovely, despite the notch, I can’t justify spending almost $1,200 on an experience I pretty much already own, minus some camera tricks and animoji and advanced AR features I can catch in a more polished form next year. I’d end up being forced to get the crappy AT&T Intel modem version, too. I think facial scanning will work well but I don’t really care about it. I’d actually really rather not have IR dots beamed at my face every time I look at my phone, anyway. I likely won’t see or feel them, but I am waiting to see if the battery will!
I felt the same about Note 8. It’s a fabulous device, no doubt about it. But I have a perfectly good S8+ I like quite a bit, despite my ceaseless remarks about its curved edges. But I’ve done the skinned Android experience. I’ve also experienced HTC’s Sense UI. I appreciate the extras these customized versions of Android bring to the table but I do at times feel the cost of them in smoothness and performance, despite being an average suburban soccer mom and not a business or gaming power user.
So, Google’s vision of Android is the final frontier for me. It’s Pixel 2XL or bust. (or Pixel 2 if there ends up being display issues in the larger Pixel).
I’m hoping once I have this breadth of experience on these varied devices, I’ll have a more matured perspective and appreciation for all the hard work and ingenuity that goes into making all of them.

I use a MBP at work and occasionally get similar ‘hate’ from some Windows users. I noticed in instructions from IT they’ll describe every little setup step in detail so it looks like there are more steps on MacOS to do the same thing as Windows when in fact it’s easier on a Mac. IT pushes Mac users to use Microsoft software, like Outlook instead of Mail. I’ve also seen dire warnings like emails warning don’t upgrade to the latest MacOS as it won’t work with X (i.e., VPN software) meanwhile I had already started using said release with X with no problems.
