whats up with the sms icon? all mesages have been read, even when erased the icon is still the same. ive tried reboot and restore.

Hmmm...it looks like it is a problem in the network. Did you try contacting your provider? Try putting it into airplane mode, see what happens.

nah, what happened is i had the first iphone and it happened on that one, then i upgraded to the 3g and as soon as i hooked it up to itune and did sync it was on my 3g just as before, ive tried everything.

Well, so you have tried reinstalling iTunes and everything? Sounds like iTunes is doing it then...
