My computer seems to be running pretty slowly, and I don't get it. These numbers seem high. I'm barely running anything. I have 4GB ram in my 2ghz core 2 dual macbook

Check your Activity Monitor (CPU tab), ensuring your are displaying All Processes, then order by Real Memory - that should give you a clue as to what is going on.

It might help to see the whole window and look at what's running to eat up your RAM like that.

I don't think it's that bad. your page outs are not obscene or anything. a restart resets it and often smooths things out too. </mrs obvious> :)

Something in the numbers doesn't seem to add up. It looks like it's telling you you're using 2.79GB and you have 311MB free (in which case having page outs wouldn't be unusual), but of course it's recognizing that you have 4GB total, not 3GB.
