Why do people write and say 5,1 for the cheese grater. Or 7,1 for the new one. What's with the comma?!
Europeans often use a comma rather than a decimal point. Can be confusing when talking numbers. Why do people write and say 5,1 for the cheese grater. Or 7,1 for the new one. What's with the comma?!
Interesting! That practise in German would initially confuse me until I was informed of it by you.Europeans often use a comma rather than a decimal point. Can be confusing when talking numbers.
Example
UK would write 1,098.00 for a thousand and ninety eight.
Germany would write 1.098,00 for the same number.
...even, sometimes, when it is, not needed.Interesting! That practise in German would initially confuse me until I was informed of it by you.For the OP, a period or comma is used to delineate, in writing to indicate a pause.
I've always read it as e.g. "MacBook Pro 9, revision 1".I've always suspected it's to look/sound more "European" but could be wrong.
