What is the reason for the Windows ads here? I've seen several. Just strikes me as odd. Surely I'm not the only one who has noticed?

The ads on the site can't be controlled when using Google AdSense. The ads displayed are based on the content of the page. If the page has a lot of words related to Windows, then a Microsoft ad will appear. 
All three of the above posts are entirely correct.
And who here doesn't get joy out of seeing Microsoft helping to pay our bills?

Wow. I was actually considering starting a thread about this last night, but didn't because I thought maybe I was the only one who found it odd. You're definitely not the only one who has noticed. It seems like it's gotten worse, too. I guess what the others have said makes sense, but I find it just plain annoying. I switched to Mac because I couldn't stand Windows anymore. Good Lord, even here I can't get away from Windows! I just want to leave all the trauma behind me...
with windows having a huge portion of the market share, its going to be impossible to get away from it %100. Its like being vegan and getting away from meat.
It isn't the Windows ads, but the Zune ads that strike me odd

probably don't want to see a Windows advert.
Because many viewing have already got one (or more). This would be a waste of money. They are far better on PC sites and those belonging to mainstream mass media.
mac ads aren't wasted on those who like/have macs, I'd say you'd get a better response from people who like macs, than people who think macs are hard to use, only for art-people, or for any o the other reasons people stick with their pc's instead of switching...

Even people who hate the Macintosh platform will find the hilarious (providing they have a sense of humour).
To be honest I completely don't see the point in Apple advertising here. Most people on here follow the company really closely and know the news as it breaks (or before, as was the case with the nanos, MacBook Air, iPhone Firmware 1.1.3 etc.)
