^ It's only been 3 days for me but at the moment I am getting the 7 hours of web browsing + word processing when brightness is at it's minimum and bluetooth is turned off.

Why does my coconutBattery say original capacity 1300 mAh?

Screenshot or gtfo! :p

It's probably just a bug with coconutBattery since it hasn't been updated with the new batteries I guess. I can say with confidence it's obviously 13000 which is your original capacity.

on June 24th it was 6923 mAh, now it's 6821 mAh. Man, they go down very fast.

So does mine (17" MBP).

BTW, does coconutBattery crash for any of you guys? Each time I've tried to calibrate, it will crash when the remaining charge hits 50% or thereabouts. I've heard that cB crashes indicate a faulty battery. It might explain why mine was missing about 500 mAh out of the box and keeps fluctuating between 12100 and 12400 max capacity from day to day.

13" MBP

Current: 5472mAh
Original: 5450mAh

Cycles: 8

The time remaining shown in the menu bar seems highly variable
On 56% remaining it's saying 2:07 to go - so something doesn't quite add up..
Oop, no now it's saying 55% & 2:18 ..! now 2:20 ... and no I'm not plugged in..

I'm hoping this will all settle down & get a bit more accurate with a few more cycles

My battery's max capacity also varies each time I check, but my cB doesn't crash.

current: 5352
Original: 5450
health: 98%

loadcycles: 1
age: 3 weeks

already calibrated it once and it actually decreased my health....

We should revisit this thread in 1 year or after 300 cycles to see if the battery health is still 94% or higher. (A comparable standard laptop battery might be at 80% health by that time)

Then the new batteries really will last longer than the standard batteries, but for some reason I'm highly skeptical that Apple has stumbled onto some battery tech that no one else has thought of before.

I have the same issue. I calibrated my battery yesterday and dropped down as well. I just got this computer less than a half a week ago!!!

How did some of you batteries get upto like 5750 out of 5450???

^ Leave it plugged it for an hour or two after it fully charged, if you did this and nothing that means your battery is below standard, not all batteries are made the same, some hold a bit more charge then others and the same the other way around.

Thanks for the tip! I left my charger on during the day after I drained it and when i got home that's when I saw it at to my surprise at 5301. I drained half of it and started plugging my charger in again and it's showing it shot up to 5358 mAH so I'm sure it'll increase slowly?

Any other tips that some people can give to me? Will this affect the "1000" cycles?

I mainly use mine plugged in hooked up to an external monitor most of the time and maybe once or twice a week i use it out of the house, where I let it drain to about 20-10% or completely and then recharge when I get home.

I have no idea if this is what has caused me to get 5750 in capacity but I'm not complaining.:p

Calibrated my 13" the day I got it, been keeping it plugged in most of the time since (FYI to those saying it's bad...that's impossible considering it stops charging once it's full and simply runs directly from the power source)

The max I've had right after calibration is 5567.

My new 15" MBP is currently 6830mAh.

Here's some tips to actually increase the capacity of your battery. I first learnt this when my iBook G4 capacity started to drop drastically and managed to get it back from 1140mAh to 2540mAh.

Unfortunately it can take a very long time (14 hours or so), so I only recommend doing this every 2 or 3 months at times when you won't be needing your MBP.

Generally follow Apple's guidelines, but a few tweaks are;

After having your MBP fully charged for 2 hours, power it up and before you drain the power;
- Make sure there are no background programmes running, and kill any unnecessary processes.
- Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are off.
- Set your Power Management settings for running off battery to be as tight as possible, but make sure computer sleep is disabled.
- make sure screensavers are turned off. Also if you are running a screensaver as a background, kill it using the software you used to activate it.
- make sure the backlit keyboard is turned off.
- Now dim the display to a very low setting.
- remove the power and turn the display brightness to be completely off.

Now leave the machine to drain. As this is the lightest power loading, it will take a very long time. I did this last week and left it overnight and while I was at work.

Once it has been fully drained and left according to Apple's guidelines, plug in the power but do not take the machine out of sleep mode until at least two hours after fully charging.

The gain you see will depend on a number of factors including how long since the battery was last callibrated, how power loaded the machine was when you did the last callibration, etc. If you get a large increase (say 500 mAh), it is worth repeating the exercise a couple of days later.

Good Luck,
Phil
