My new 15" MBP is currently 6830mAh.
Here's some tips to actually increase the capacity of your battery. I first learnt this when my iBook G4 capacity started to drop drastically and managed to get it back from 1140mAh to 2540mAh.
Unfortunately it can take a very long time (14 hours or so), so I only recommend doing this every 2 or 3 months at times when you won't be needing your MBP.
Generally follow Apple's guidelines, but a few tweaks are;
After having your MBP fully charged for 2 hours, power it up and before you drain the power;
- Make sure there are no background programmes running, and kill any unnecessary processes.
- Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are off.
- Set your Power Management settings for running off battery to be as tight as possible, but make sure computer sleep is disabled.
- make sure screensavers are turned off. Also if you are running a screensaver as a background, kill it using the software you used to activate it.
- make sure the backlit keyboard is turned off.
- Now dim the display to a very low setting.
- remove the power and turn the display brightness to be completely off.
Now leave the machine to drain. As this is the lightest power loading, it will take a very long time. I did this last week and left it overnight and while I was at work.
Once it has been fully drained and left according to Apple's guidelines, plug in the power but do not take the machine out of sleep mode until at least two hours after fully charging.
The gain you see will depend on a number of factors including how long since the battery was last callibrated, how power loaded the machine was when you did the last callibration, etc. If you get a large increase (say 500 mAh), it is worth repeating the exercise a couple of days later.
Good Luck,
Phil
