Haven't used it much but seems to work fine here.. Granted I usually only use it when the misses is in the living room and needs to ask me something while Im working in the "studio", but no trouble yet.

Did you have issues at all under older OSs? My symptoms usually begin when I my database has become large to the tune of 60gb plus.

Oh wow, no mines barely at 700MB or so. Ive really only been using it since July 2019 though (got my first iPhone on the 4th). I think my desktop still hasn't synced up to everything on my phone though. I have a couple chats that are a couple weeks behind where my phone is at.
I used to use iChat pretty regularly during the 'Instant Messenger days', probably up until about the time Lion came out, but I dont think my message archives have ever been anywhere near that big.

time to clean it out? you can do that in About this mac>storage>manage... and you should 😵
My strategy has been to create a virtual machine from my computer so that I can trim it down and just have access to the text database and then save the virtual machine. I have done this three times 😐🤡

you can also just, if all you want is the text, delete any images & videos right from that manage window. but whatever works 👍

Apparently I am seeing an issue here in Big Sur with it (just updated to the latest beta too).. I have one chat in here, me and the misses, that is always on going. Its staying in sync between Mac and iPhone just fine. Nothing else on the desktop side is in sync with my phone. I was just messaging my mother on my phone earlier. Came in just now to check it, her last message to me on the Mac is the last time we spoke a month ago. The chat above hers was last updated 2 weeks ago, etc. Even after hitting 'Sync Now' in the prefs, its not updating. Going by the dates, it stopped when I upgraded to the Big Sur beta, but for some reason that one chat IS getting updated. The rest are chopped liver or something.
