I've not seen that one before! Sweet ad.

It wasn't allowed to be shown in America because it depicts evolution which goes against the belief that God created everything so it got banned. I did some work experience last year at AMV.BBDO, the makers of all of the Guinness ads among others and it was amazing and got some good freebies and contacts out of it.

My favourite has to be the Guinness surfer one. Iconic.

Unless I misunderstood your post, that's complete BS. Where on earth did you hear that America bans the promotion of the theory of evolution??? Is that what you seriously think?

darwinian evolution is the norm for our public schools, and the majority of our private.

I think jb6060 is right...

Well, from the people that made the advert so I'm pretty sure that i am more informed than you that it would not be shown because it offended too many people and had too many complaints

As someone who just read about an advertising campaign launched in the US this week featuring silk-stocking clad Catholic nuns eyeing shirtless men in gothic churches who are flashing them the come-hither look, I still refuse to believe this.

Either you were misinformed by the producers or they were given a phony reason for it not airing, but that ad is very tame compared to a lot of things that are shown, and as has been mentioned, the folks that protest Darwinism are in a not-all-that-vocal minority.

They're BSing you. Trust me, as someone who used to sell prime-time airtime for a major network, we hold nothing back, as long as the content brakes no laws and promises revenue.

And for the record, the largest auto-insurance provider in the US uses a Caveman as one its spokespersons. It became such a huge success, that it spawned its own sitcom.

The Guinness commercial is NOTHING compared to the offensive/racy/provocative smut we paste all over our televisions and radios. If anyone decided not to release it to the US, it was likely Guinness themselves under the same faulty, uninformed logic you're using. They never presented it to us.

Also - how did it garner "too many complaints" if it never aired in the US to begin with?

that reminds me:

Although I'm still not very fond of their modern design (even though they're attempting to return to their roots), I thought the Mustang/National Anthem was sweet!

I remember that commercial! It's really great, and the new Mustang is much improved over the previous generation (which was a good car). Here is another Caddy commercial with a song I liked so much I downloaded it:

***, *****, ***********, ********, **********!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I fell down from my chair... Why didn't you warn us?!?!?!? :D
**cking fearful...

Well, if I had, you wouldn't have fallen off your chair and the whole ad would be useless :D

It's funny that breweries - probably the only folks who need absolutely no help selling their product to eager males everywhere - are the ones that put so much effort into creating likable commercials.

I think that breweries are those who NEED to invest much in their commercials! Why? Because of the strong competition on beer market. Beer commercials in Russia are one of the most popular ones. I mean there is a huge amount of beer ads. Now we have a law: beer commercial on TV can only come after 10 P.M. I'm sure there are many beer adds in other countries. Competition force producers to make these commercials! ;)

I have no favourite TV commercials…
I despise them.

Unless the UK just has particularly bad ones. But most seem to be for "equity release"… debt consolidation "experts"… bowel disorder remedies aka stool "softeners"… feminine "hygiene" products… Ambulance chaser "lawyers".
And for some odd reason 99% of UK ads seem to have been filmed in Cape Town, South Africa.

Thank god for the BBC — ad free, for now. :D

The Metz Judderman ad was quite, quite fantastic and dark.

Funnily enough, it was taken off the air because it scared children. Only in Britain can an advert for alcohol be banned because kids don't like it. :D

That was a cracking ad. Shame that Metz tasted like crap.

There was a guinness ad that I only ever saw once. It was the one with the tower and the camera zoomed all the way into a glass of guinness, then in on a bubble which was a world. Then carried on zooming until arriving at the first scene again...
The ad was shown lots with one sound track but I only ever saw it the once with Sepultura for the music.

Anyone remember AdCritic.com? That site used to host commercials and discussions about them. I miss that site. They used to have a database of many wonderful commercials.

As an aside: Boy! YouTube seems to be quite a dominant site now. Most of the links seem to be pointing there. I miss the days of downloadable video. I would like to save some of those videos and not have to go to YouTube to view them.
