What is your favorite version of Mac OS?

I've never heard of HuMan or IRIX. When are they from, what were
they mainly used for, and what type of hardware did they run on?

IRIX is SGI's unix flavored OS heavily geared toward NLE/RT Video editing
as well as 3D graphics and sound. It actually reminds my a lot of Mac's
OS X in that it's based on unix but tuned to a particular hardware feature
set and prettied up. :) I think OpenGL happened on IRIX first and/or
foremost.

HuMan is Sharp's OS developed by HuSoft specifically designed for
Sharp's "X68ooo" machine and subsequently based models. The Sharp
X68k was Japan's answer and one-upmanship to the Commodore Amiga
released the same year (IIRC) as the Amiga 1000. Special care was
invested so that arcade level game emulation, porting, and development
might be streamlined and made more possible. The machines were like
Amigas on steroids and the HuMan OS was a mixed bag of all the best
parts of MS-DOS, MS-Windows, UNIX, and OS9, not unlike AmigaOS
itself. It's also the machine I really learned C on so it has an extra
special place in my memories. :)

I have been using Macs since System 4. I like each OS better than the one before. My new favorite is 10.5.7. Soon to be 10.5.8, followed by 10.6 . . . .:D

OS 9 or OS X?

I liked Mac OS 9.2.2 i felt it was the most stable classic mac os operating system

But I also liked Mac OS X Mac OS X Panther and up

But I go with Mac OS X because I use it more but Mac OS 9 was fantastic too. :apple:

Mac OS X, particularly Tiger. That was the ultimate version of Mac OS X, combining enough of the features I use to make it useable, and the unparalleled speed and reliability that I have yet to see and doubt I ever will with another version of Mac OS X.

Tiger compared to Leopard was kind of, as I see it, XP compared to Vista, to a lesser extent. Leopard has all these new features, a better looking UI, etc., but Tiger just seemed to work. No wireless problems, no router incompatibilities, no graphics problems, and just faster speed overall.

I have been using Mac OS X since Jaguar, when I upgraded my fully souped iMac G3 from Mac OS 9.2.2 to it. I waited to upgrade to Mac OS X since there was serious problems with Mac OS X before Jaguar.

I used Jaguar about 50% of the time, with Windows 2000 Professional the other 50%, since Mac OS X still, in my mind, wasn't ready to be used for a full time OS. When Panther came out, I felt by then Mac OS X was very polished, but lacked a lot of features that Windows had, so I upgraded it but still split time with now Windows XP. When Tiger came out, it was basically heaven falling from the skies. It was even more polished and reliable than Panther, but brought a lot more features than expected. I didn't upgrade it until I bought my 1st generation BlackBook, because by then the G3 era was dead, and I couldn't have been happier. Tiger has made me use Mac OS X 100% of the time, except for the occasional Windows game.

When I upgraded to Leopard, I haven't had the reliability of Tiger. Spotlight is much faster, and Mac OS X UI looks better, but besides that I don't use many of the features because I find them unnecessary. I immediately had Wireless unreliability, and still have it to some extent. Occasionally the OS will lock up for a few seconds, and RAM usage uses about 150% of the RAM Tiger uses.

I will agree with most of what you have said except for one detail. Oddly enough, Tiger has issues while connected to a dual band airport extreme via wifi. Causes kernel panics and everything.

Wish I had the thread on Apple' support forum saved, but I'm sure its a google search away.

My preference is Snow Leopard because of Lions downgrading of Spaces and Expose, the near uselessness of a 2nd monitor in Full-screen mode, and the loss of "Save As..." and "Do You Want to Save?"

Snow Leopard, Lion will probably be but currently wayy to many bugs and freezes

I have only used Mac OS X, but I'll say that it definitely beats any Window system that I've used. I have the same opinion as maril1111. I loved having Snow Leopard. Lion will probably outdo it, but it needs to be worked on given the freezing and bugs. I've had to restart Safari countless times because of freezing issues.

Snow Leopard -

But I think the poll should be - what is your favorite cat food flavor for OSX.:)

----------

The poll lumps all OSX versions together, which is not really a fair comparison for most mac users today.

I'm relatively new... I bought my Mac when Leopard was out. I upgraded to Snow Leopard the day it came out, and upgraded to Lion the day that came out.

I LOVE the Lion features, but in terms of overall performance and reliability, Snow Leopard was my favourite. Considering downgrading back to Snow Leopard if Lion doesn't get sorted soon...
