Now that iPhone 12 has been announced, lets speculate on what will be the features in next year's iPhone :) . Personally, I think

TouchID on Home button
ProMotion only on pro models
Smaller notch
No lightning port(will be replaced by smart connector)
Magsafe charger included in the box

Will probably be 12s.

Every 2 years they increment the number.

It's just going to improve on the stuff that didn't work as hoped on the iPhone 12. It'll look identical.

Battery life
New 5G modem
Camera tweak
Maybe 120 hz scrolling

I think the iPhone people will be interested in will be the iPhone 15

TouchID on Home button - Agree
ProMotion only on pro models - Agree
Smaller notch - Agree
No lightning port(will be replaced by smart connector) - Agree (though they might push this to 2022)
Magsafe charger included in the box - Doubtful. Apple isn't that generous. Maybe if they remove the cable.

Also:
Upgraded camera (I guess that's obvious though).
Battery life

Rumors say Apple will skip numbers 13 (bad) and 14 (bad) and name it “iPhone XV”

Exactly this IMO.

The device is way too thin and the 5G modem will burn battery.

I’m expecting a 12S that’s thicker like the 11 Pro Max.

The following year will be USB-C and 120 Hz (2022).

iPhone will never get USB-C. It will be portless within 2 years.

iPhone Pro Mini surely will be a thing... if sales are as expected for the smaller device. That way they have another phone in the line up to make the choice even more tricky lol. Especially now that not all Pro devices are equal.

-"Fastest ever chip" apple a15
- 120 hz/pro motion on the pro models.
- Reduced notch.
- Improved megapixel count in the cameras. I think next year will be a big upgrade for the hardwear of iphone cameras.
- Largely increased battery capacity. Apple didn't mention battery at all this year, I think next year they will increase the thickness slightly and improve battery life.
-Improved 5g.
-MAYBE no lightning port. But only on the 13 pro-max ("Halo model"). Will possibly receive a magsafe charger in the box. I don't believe they will go no lightning port on all models, and early rumours/leaks have suggested apple only plan it for their most expensive model.
-We will keep the 5.4 inch/6.1 inch/6.1 inch pro/6.7 inch pro form factors.
-MAYBE 1440p displays, probably on the pro models.
-Some sort of upgrade to the lidar sensors.

All I've got right now.

I really hope for 128GB base model for 699$, 120hz finally, smaller or NO NOTCH (hate it anyway). I don't care for any other features at this point, I just want to be able to upgrade my iPhone XR. I don't see them making fully wireless without removing the notch entirely, that's what they're building up to..

I really hope for Touch ID. Some will scoff, but it's been a significant reason I've hung onto my 7plus. My anecdotal experience with family and friends is that many miss TouchID (not just COVID-19 reasons) and would love it added.
alongside face ID.
I'm pondering a 12pro or 11 pro max if can get good deal now 12 is out, but the siren song of "next year's model will have" is in the air for me. Obviously, with tech there's always something more that supports waiting "until next year" such that you never upgrade until forced to......or upgrading every year. I'll be rocking an iPhone 7 plus in 3 years at this rate. lol

Ditched the iphone 11 too

now using the iPhone 7 plus as main fone because of lighter weight and of course touchID.

Hoping for a iPhone 13 Mini
  • with power button or underscreen Touch ID
  • with no notch or a "hidden" one (rectangular screen, either speakers on the sides of the notch or panels)
  • 120 MHz refresh rate
  • improved cameras (from the 12 Pro/Max)
  • USB-C instead of lightning

120hz likely the obvious update, but I strongly disagree with the common belief here that battery life will be improved. The new screens will suck up any battery performance gains that an A15 chip would bring and likely make the battery life worse than iPhone 12.

Is there any reason to believe that the regular 13 Pro will get the 12 Pro Max's camera system (bigger sensor + better stabilization)? Or are we going back to the iPhone 6/7/8 days for years to come?
