I used a Speck case on my 15" for about 2 months from new but have decided now to not use it

I have a Moshi palm, trackpad and keyboard cover but remove the keyboard cover quite a bit as it's annoying!

Anyway, removed the Speck as the mbp felt too big/clunky and it didn't fit in my LArobe sleeve which protects it pretty well !

Having spent a good chunk of money on my MBP, I treat it pretty damn well by my standards.

I give the screen and keyboard a cleaning with anti-static wipes, and just use water+paper towel for the exterior of the enclosure. Though I only do that once a week.

Once a month, I grab an air can and spray the heck out of my keyboard and ports due to dust and whatnot.

I was gonna ask how to clean the aluminum... you think water works best? And thanks for reminding me about the compressed air. I should pick up some of that stuff!

One interesting thing about unibody MacBooks, is that not once do I remember picking this up for the first time that day and not being pretty "wowed" by how awesome it is/looks. Apple did an amazing job on these. I don't even get that feeling for my iPad/iPhone, ect. Just my MacBook.

Maybe it's just the insane amount of money I had to spend to get it... XP

I am not sure if water is the best, considering how nice water plays with metals. Though it's only a small amount that I use which 'shouldn't' do anything besides clean the surface.

Compressed air is your friend/lover/god when it comes to clearing out dust.

I'm not sure if it's the best thing to use, but I have been using windex to clean both the screen and the casing. Works well for me, no problems after 2 years of doing it probably once a month.

My rules are simple:

1. If I were to have any liquids near it, the beverage would either be a fair distant away or have a cap.

2. Always lay on a flat, center and stable surface.

3. When outside the house, it's protected with a sleeve and bag.

Just make sure you're using the ammonia-free formula, if you have the anti-glare. Ammonia and plastic are not friends.

My MBP lies around the house naked; when I have to take it out it goes in a Booq Viper. I also have a keyboard cover for it, but I'm clumsy. Aside from wiping it down with a microfiber once in awhile, it doesn't get much babying.

Aluminum doesn't rust, so you can use as much water as you like on it. The only thing I'm somewhat concerned about is sweat from my arms rubbing the finish off and eventually oxidizing the aluminum, so I'll likely make a palm guard or two in the near future.

I recently got the 2011 mbp and I have to say, I really really am concern about scratching the finish and whatnot. But I didn't get anything for it aside from the standard incase sleeve for traveling. (I take it around with me everyday.) The reason why is because eventually, I want to be comfortable with my computer and not worried about where I'm putting it or touching it so down the road, I won't care as much. :D

I bought the perforated incase hard shell. Mainly because I beat the living piss out of every electronic device I have ever owned. I'm still using a flip phone cause I'm afraid I'll break the screen, and still using a 5G ipod nano for the same reason. So, I figured I should probably buy a case for my MBP, especially since I'm a student.

I hit my backpack against a lot of things getting it in/out of my car and such, so the case has been a great investment. I take it off about every other week for cleaning though. Where I work during the day can get messy at times, and since the case is perforated, dust can get in the holes.

Flip phone users unite!! :D

its a tool...

my mbp is a tool to do a job. i take care of it but i don't baby the thing the way some fanboys/fangirls do on the board to the point that it get ridiculous...i don't have a case for the thing but i do have a NorthFace Surge which I use everyday.

my mentality: i paid for a tool so i will use it to do what needs to be done whether i need to do school work, my research or something else. if the thing breaks, gets a scratch or whatever, i will take it in stride because if it STILL does the job that I need, then I am all good.

I don't do anything special. No shells, covers nor anything of that sort, only a basic incase sleeve.

I clean the screen only when it gets really dirty and become uncomfortable to read with a bright light.

Only golden rules are; clean my hands before using the computer, and no food, drinks or smoking anywhere near the machine, candies are fine tho.

I treat my Apple products like babies. My white MacBook never cracked and never yellowed and 5 years later it's still in perfect condition. I use keyboard covers and polish the cases ever week with iKlear. The only thing I use cases on are my iPad and iPods. I carry my MacBooks in incase sleeves.

I don't really do anything special to take care of it. If I travel with it I put it in an incase sleeve. If I'm at home, I treat it like any other computer - no liquids around it, clean hands... the usual. Every now and then I'll clean the screen with a microfiber cloth.

I have a sleeve for my 17-inch for traveling purposes. Don't want the backpack to scratch it up, other than that, no case or anything. I'm careful with it, I don't "baby" it, but I've had mine for 4.5 months and not a SINGLE scratch is on it, ANYWHERE! Still can't tell the difference between new and mine. Just clean/dust it off regularily and wipe the keyboard down once a day at the end.

When its in its hardshell.. I tend to not be so "careful" with it. When outside, its always in its shell and or sleeve.

When I go to school, of course I am. It's such a huge investment and a big part of my life, grades and future. I got to take care of it.

As for keeping it clean, only when I have the time or feel like it. It's not like I'm OCD about dust or smudges. It is what it is. When its time to clean the room, thats what I'll usually swipe through and spend maybe 5 minutes inspecting all my gadgets.

I don't plan on selling my Macbook Pro, so its aesthetic preservation isn't upmost priority. However, I'm a very neat and organized person so I try my best to keep it nice. I never allow liquid or food near it, I dust and clean it regularly, use a keyboard cover to prevent dust getting under the keys, and most importantly, never let anyone else touch it. Aside from the silicone keyboard cover I don't use any kind of sleeve or protective skin. I'm careful around it, though one time I was lifting a power cable over it and one of the metal prongs at the end of the cable tapped the screen very close to the aluminum bezel (I have a matte screen) on the right side. It made a tiny mark smaller than a pixel so it kind of looks like a I have a little spec of dust on the screen that I can never get off. But I think I was lucky, it's almost impossible to notice unless you move in very close and look for it.

I don't baby my laptop nearly as much as you guys. I leave it in an incase and throw it in my backpack to class every day. I haven't dropped it or been aggressive with it but these incases aren't that great, mine has already cracked on the bottom.

Its a tool, I use it to death, but don't intentionally damage it, if it fails, Apple owes me a new one, really that's the end of the story, if it gets accidentally damaged, the insurance company owes me a new one.

how on earth do you crack the aluminum? ><

Since he said "the Incase cases aren't so great" before hand, I think he means he cracked the case.

And no, I seriously doubt anyone would crack the aluminum since... it's metal.

And yes, if he has an 06-08(?) MB (the last generation anyway), they are prone to having the palm-rest crack. My old black one had a crack on both the left and right ones.

the thing hard to take off?

My Incase cover cracked. I think its defective because I don't remember ever dropping my laptop or even setting it down hard.

My laptop is the 2011 mbp btw

I have read every single post in this thread! lol I use a Speck on my 13 pro i7 and have to admit it sure does all bulk but gives it real good protection. On the Air that i just ordered however I do not really want to hide the thinness with a case so I am thinking to get a invisible shield and a book book case or sleeve, anyone using invisible shield on new air? what is your thoughts? That way I don't loose the look, I get a nice grip and its protected to put down without worrying about scratches.
