there's almost no other use then consumption.

can you do accounting on it? no
can you do complex workflows on it? no
can you do something in ms office? too limited
can you call with it? when tethered to an iPhone

Is any big company seriously contemplating moving to iPads? not really...maybe some executives.
(besides some of the PR gags of course)

Can you do creative work with it? a little bit.

it's a device to surf on the couch and that hasn't changed since it's introduction. To surf on the couch I can still use my iPad 2.

What does apple do in it's own offices and production? windows

Change that and you MIGHT see a change again...

Yes you can, there are a number of accounting applications for iOS, i.e., freshbooks, easybooks.

can you do complex workflows on it? no
Please define complex workflow, this is somewhat generic and open ended.

While it does lack some features of the desktop version, what specifically is missing that is limiting your ability to work on spreadsheets? For instance, I'm able to use excel as I normally would.

No you don't. Facetime, and skype both work fine without an iPhone. By the way, we are talkign about a tablet and phone calls are not an integral piece to the functionality. In comparing with desktops, they also cannot make a phone call without the iPhone.

i do accounting on it. and complex workflows (whatever they are). dont use MS Office and i convert to Pages/Numbers and back again when needed and i make calls daily from it without a separate mobile.

Big company's do use ipads, extensively, even if at an individual level for whatever tasks, but then, how many big company's (or small) would move to any tablets for 100% of their revenue/income generation and workflows? none or hardly i wouldn't think. and if they do i wager they aren't 'that big'. meaning this isnt an Apple issue.

i can do tons and tons of fee earning creative work on mine. and do.

it certainly is a couch surfing device if you want it to be, and i'm glad you're finding your ipad2 sufficient in this manner. personally i just dumped my ipad2 as it's painfully slow. difference between a ipad2 and Pro is like between a Ferrari and a Skoda. but i'm glad you're still finding old tech just as good as today's.

Listen, i'm a staunt Windows fan and i'm all for personal opinion and subjective views, but that is pretty single visioned and not objectively descriptive of what the Pro is and how it's used. i'm happy with all softwares and hardwares from whatever company if it's going to make my life more joyous, and Pro just happens to do this for me and the (largish) company i work for.

And, do Apple, as a general rule, use MS over their own software? where can i read this officially? sounds like whatever Apple do you wont be happy.

I'm not surprised that iPad sales are fading.

Over Hyped by Steve Jobs as "Magical and Revolutionary" they simply aren't.

The newness has worn off and now it's showing.

I don't think its over-hype as much as market saturation. There's little reason for iPad owners to upgrade. There's other factors to be sure, but overall, those that want an iPad, already have one.

I can't do pivot tables in iOS, nor any of the pro features of excel in iOS or even OS X. Can't directly link my excel with ODBC in iOS. I receive files with slicers, power pivots, power maps and so on...

Safari iOS can't handle files from Cognos, even if those are normal CSV files that I want to open in Excel. There are other specific websites that offer download files where even plain excel files can't seem to be downloaded.

Can't run any of the industry specific apps we use, only if i request them to make iOS apps. (still understandable)

I love apple products and I'm the only one using my macbook on the IT department. I'm very frustrated that Apple leaves the professional market to a windows environment.

It's ok for creative and marketing departments...but for finance or any other dept. estimating, execution, tendering... apple iOS or os x isn't cutting it.

edit: i work in a multi-billion worldwide construction company..

mr.bee, i have no issues with any of that. it's all true. if you'd have made your points in relation to yourself and your line of work in the first place your comments on the Pro might seem more at home.
as it was, you just made sweeping comments across the board that came over very negative and untrue when not put into context. (mind you, your comparisons of the ipad2 to the Pro are just plain wrong whatever)

i apologise for my lack of misinterpretation.

Hey most of us on here are like that. The average user though doesn't see as big of a need to upgrade.

don't say sorry :)

I'm sorry if I seem very negative, it's because i'm very frustrated with this and would love to make this setup work!

Fair enough, so in your situation, it does not fit, but I don't think you can then make the blanket statement that it doesn't work for everyone, because that's simply not the case.
