Apple app? carrier site? Are you doing more than one at once? Etc. Trying to figure out how to approach and give myself the best chance of getting through.

Pre orders usually go live here (UK) at a fairly sensible 8am. I'm likely going to be at work so hoping we won't be on a job then I'll just sit in the mess room refreshing the app every second until it lets me in and hopefully get an order in. Will probably have the desktop site open on the iPad as well just in case.

If we're on a job then that's me out!

Simultaneously using app and website, with a couple of different browsers. App usually wins the race, but I’ve had occasional website victories.

Shame everyone knows to try the app these days, for a couple of launches it was as quick and as simple as ordering a usb cable on a Wednesday lunch in February.

Always good form to check all your payment methods and shipping addresses are up to date a couple of days beforehand.

Good advice here. That usually can prohibit somebody if their billing information or addresses are not current, where could It could uphold the pre-order.

I typically wake up at 2:40ish eastern time. Go on safari on my Mac and Apple Store app on my idevices, and pre order on whichever pulls up first.

I'm sort of a newbie when it comes to iPhone launches, but I had a few questions if someone didn't mind helping me out:

  1. A few people have referred to a 3AM (PST?) launch time, but no one has mentioned a date yet. Is this the morning after the Sept. 12 iPhone announcement (i.e., on Sept. 13 at 3AM PST)? Or is it on another date?
  2. Can pre-ordering be done in person at an Apple Store, or is that only for lining up to buying release-day iPhones? Or do you have to pre-order to be allowed to get in line at all? Or is there a separate line for pre-orders only? Or do pre-orders only ship straight to your doorstep? I'm really confused about this part.
  3. Does being a part of the IUP automatically pre-order the newest iPhone model for you (if currently eligible)? Or does it at least give you priority registration in the pre-order battle?

Wake up at preorder time, use laptop and phone, whichever loads first.

Prayers to heaven that I don't get stuck with some insane delivery days.

It's 12AM PST so 3AM EST. Past couple of years, I think preorders went live Friday after the keynote.

Preordering cannot be done in person at the store, you can only buy a phone from them once released. Online preorders in the past have had two options: order for delivery to your doorstep, or order for pickup from a specific local Apple Store (note, delivery is only to your doorstep, not to your office or a shipping company). Both options are done from either the Apple.com website or the Apple Store phone app. When you choose pickup from store, that reserves a phone for you at that store on launch day - you are guaranteed to get it as long as you show up within 24 hours (maybe 48 hours, don't remember). Each store has a limited supply of phones, that is separate from the limited online order supply; the stores will sell out, while the online orders will get later and later shipping dates.

On launch day, there are two lines at the Apple Store, a short one for online orders for pickup, and one for walk-in purchasers (stores always reserve more phones than were preordered, for those walk-ins). That line is very long, and you need to get there plenty early to manage to get one before they sell out.

Note, phone carriers and big-box stores such as Best Buy also sell the phones; that is another option, though it tends to be not as well organized as Apple.

iUp is a program where you can choose to upgrade to the newest iPhone model if you wish - if you do so, that resets your two year payment plan and you trade in your old phone. It is not automatic, and last year existing iUp members actually had less priority than everyone else (and were pissed!)

My pre-order strategy will be to get online at 7:55am (UK time) use the Apple website and open the app on my iPhone, order a iPhone 8/Edition/X 128GB (or 64GB if no 128 as I still have over 90GB left of my jet black 7 Plus) in Blush Gold.

Shortly after in order to avoid any delays in the phone shipping I will then buy accessories (maybe wireless charging pad, case so on).

I'm hoping the 8/Edition/X gets the same pre-order date of Friday 15th even if it doesn't start shipping until October like the rumours have suggested.

I estimate by the time the website goes live, you will have three minutes or less to have your pre-order in before elongated shipping dates. That Will be the fastest three minutes of your life.

3 minutes  i have Apple Pay set up so hopefully that will help make it faster, i will decide on the colour after the event (so far i like the look of the Blush Gold) and know before pre-orders go live, it will then be a case of selecting the model, storage colour and then straight to cart.

Does Apple Pay work on Apple's website for buying iPhone's? For example can I just click on what phone I want, use Touch ID to check out faster?

Would be useful if there's only a few minutes to do it

No pre-order strategy for me this year. My 6s plus is working flawlessly. I will wait and pick one up when they get to the stores.
