Use this test. It's a one minute timed test of an old classic story. It's not as accurate as a five minute test could be, but it's enough to get a rough idea. Post your certificate with your WPM below.

got 61... you people must be insane at typing

I can't touch type really, but I type without looking at the keys... sort of like muscle memory I guess?

Anyway i only use my left index and middle finger and my right thumb, index and middle finger...

I started learning to touch type this summer but started my new job and realised there's not all that much need to be incredibly fast at typing when coding... at least not when you have to stop and think about what you're doing as much as I do!

I used to type about 120 wpm. The test through me off with single spaces after the sentences and also I didn't just go. If I tried the test a few more times, I'm sure I could get better but I got a 96.

43 WPM. I used to be faster like around 250-300 WPM, but then the essays in high school killed my hands, almost literally. So no more. :(

Do you mean "words" how Office calculates them? Or characters? Either way, sounds bogus.

Ehh, not the greatest here, but all right. I'm sure I could do better on another run, but not worth another minute :p

Words. It does sound bogus, yeah, but I also type really weird to begin with. I don't look at the keyboard, I use one hand since I can't use the other, and I alternate between all my fingers, mostly using my middle and pointer ones.

And obviously if you know what the heck you're going to type and it's in your head, you type a lot faster, than when you have to read the words on the screen and copy them again.

I did 52 words per minute, but since I have badly cut my right index I couldn't use it at all for typing. Not too bad

But how many mistakes did you make?

I came off with thought provoking forty. (and zero mistakes)

I did 45 with 0 errors. Given, I have zero training and use a 2-finger system. I could type faster than that if the story was dictated or made up on the spot since having to glance at the screen and back on the keyboard put me off at times.

Wonder how many people can re-tell the story though.

Something about a shoemaker not making enough money? Not a native English speaker here....so that excuses partly my poor 40ish....

109 words / min
0 errors

I had to backspace a few times though because of switching the order of two letters or something. Happens a lot when I press shift to capitalize. Might try it again tomorrow when I'm not sleep deprived just to see how fast I can hit.
