Whatsapp alternatives?

Sorry if I'm repeating what other people have mentioned but I'll list the ones I know:

• iMessage (well, duh!)
• Kik
• BBM
• imo
• React Messenger (This has a bit of a twist compared to normal instant messaging and currently in beta)
• Viber
• Meow Chat (Not kidding)

For me, personally, I only really trust iMessage and WhatsApp for my messaging because I think they respect privacy the most. WhatsApp doesn't sell ads and I like that ethic. I don't think Apple does either, the encryption on iMessage is very strong.

Presumably they'll all be as stable as WhatsApp is for you so good luck 🙂

Also, anybody who is concerned about privacy like me, there's a new messaging app coming soon called Hemlis, so check that out. No idea when it's coming out but it's supposed to be very pro-privacy and whatnot - https://heml.is - I'm excited for it but I don't know how well it's gonna work.

People keep missing my point. If you have a phone that is capable of downloading and running and using an application like WhatsApp, then you have a "smart phone" and those phones are required to have separate data plans, and damn near every data plan includes unlimited text messages. Every single carrier that I've had an iPhone with, since the day the 3G came out, had unlimited text messages.

Try this: Send a regular text message abroad. How much money did you just spend? A very stupid amount!

Another thing to try: Start a group chat with your friends using regular text messaging. This one is difficult, in fact it's not even possible.

Some people live in small worlds and have difficulty seeing the big picture. Certainly anybody with friends or relatives outside their home country is in need of a text message app. The good part of Whatsapp is that they already have a huge following so that makes it more likely that the people you want to reach already have it. I hate getting invitations to join somebody on some obscure texting app that I don't have.

What Siderz said... I am UK based, one of my best friends is Florida based and getting married in the Summer. A LOT of txt messages and picture messages are being exchanged at the moment, she has a HTC and I have an iPhone. I don't even want to think about the cost of the bill if we both weren't on whatsapp (where it's free!). Plus, many phone plans nowadays do have unlimited txts included, but not all! So it's silly to just presume that this is the case.
