Just leave WhatsApp for what it does best, we don’t need bloatware also the macOS Apple silicon has been in beta for over a year just release it
You say people should leave, yet you wait for the release of the app, so which is it?

I wish there was some sort of message standard like email (and SMS in its days) because that is a lot better than WhatsApp.
Apple is blinded by its dominance in the US (and irrelevance anywhere else) and Google is just too incompetent so they both work to make WhatsApp that standard.
And despite that this new feature seems quite useful and focused. It also removes one of the valid and useful Twitter uses.
At some point hope is perhaps wishing someone will force a spin off on WhatsApp.

Remember the EU wants to force all of these chat systems to be interoperable including iMessage, so get ready for spam from all of these companies as well as Facebook to try to monetize WhatsApp to death by turning it to the new Twitter.

Not once again WhatsCrapp copying features already on another apps and making headlines for it... zzz

In the UK here and can honestly say I don’t and won’t use this pile of crap. Have moved away from all Meta platforms the past few years after they’ve all gone down the pan. The few people who don’t know to get me on iMessage will not be missed. Anytime anyone tries to add me into a whatsapp chat I tell them I don’t use it and don’t plan to. There’s still morons out there like ‘bUt ItS fReE tO sEnD pIcTuReS’ and those are iPhone people, thankfully I don’t really know any android people.

a feed-style one-way broadcast service coming to the popular chat platform where admins can send text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls to followers.

a directory where channels can be discovered, and you can also get to a channel from an invite link. Admins can decide who can follow their channel and whether they want it to be listed in the directory or not

So essentially, an equivalent of what Instagram is. Which is owned by Meta. Just leave us be, Meta; just give us whatsapp for direct messaging and group chats, and keep the social platform where it already is: in Instagram.

WhatsApp seriously sucks in many ways and I don't know why I'm seeing news about it on this site.
Because outside of the US, hundreds of millions of iPhone users use it.

Not saying I like it, merely highlighting why it’s relevant.

Here in the UK, I know virtually no-one who uses iMessage, including iPhone users, simply because WhatsApp has become the default as it’s cross platform.

I’d use Signal or Telegram possibly, but about 1/50th of my contact list use them so they’re useless.

As for this update, hopefully I can completely mute it out of existence, WhatsApp is the closest I am to any social media (beyond a bit of forum and Reddit browsing EDIT: Just deleted my Reddit account, RIP Apollo!) and I begrudge even that 😂 One group chat, close family, that’s it. Somehow I’ve even shook off my work WhatsApp group, heh.

Not looking to follow anyone or any org, so a useless feature for me. WhatsApp is for texting and calling. Twitter is for following.

That's because carriers screwed it all up. WhatsApp gets texts through instantly even if international. In my experience, text across carriers and between Apple and Android can take hours to get delivered, and international ones sometimes never get delivered. So I get free unlimited international texting from my carrier except that it doesn't work. I guess they were busy buying media companies instead of investing in their infrastructure because they knew they could get away with shoddy service.

Back when WhatsApp had their snafu around monetizing texts, I pushed everyone I knew to Signal and removed WhatsApp. But just like the carriers, Signal proved unreliable. Many times texts would take hours to get delivered. I ended up removing it and going back to WhatsApp.

Most have some kind of WIFI connection at home but many don't have good reception to receive an SMS.

AT&T has figured out how to charge me for WhatsApp calls but they can't figure out how to make SMS work?

I want that feature Apple announced in Messages, the one that lets you transcribe voice notes without listening to them... or just blocking voice notes altogether.

This. People don't know how to be concise in voice notes, I hate them. I wish WhatsApp would allow me to control who can or cannot send me voice notes, and also restrict the duration.

And I agree with the others here that WhatsApp is going the way of bloatware, I prefer they focus on what matters, get rid of status tab (or allow hiding), make it a good cross-platform messaging app as it was intended.
