This is taking forever.
Any predictions on when it will drop?
Sorry if there is another thread for this couldn’t see one.

At Facebook they are just a team of idiots with a messy policy.

Facebook app doesn't have dark mode. WhatsApp doesn't either. But Messenger do.
There's no Facebook app for Watch. There's no WhatsApp app either. But there's a Messenger app.
The iOS app and the mobile website doesn't let you use the full pic without cropping when uploading a new profile pic. The website does.
You have iPad versions of Facebook and Messenger but no WhatsApp.
And I could swear every single update pushed for the Facebook app contains cosmetic changes in the interface (like the icons, constantly changing).

It looks like those guys act like 18 years old "designers" that just discovered stuff and make changes all the time.

I know I don't answer your question, sorry, but that's my feeling about the situation and therefore I stopped expecting a dark mode or anything else from them... It will come when it will come.

I remember when ios7 came out it must have taken WhatsApp about 6 months to update it to the new look. Looked weird with all the bubbles and skeuomorphism and then everything else flat and minimal.

Like the above poster pointed out, there is no consistency and it seems they just do whatever whenever. I wouldn't hold your breath for it, it probably may not even come.

It’s a shame how much inconsistency there is across the apps.

Looks like we won’t see dark mode for a while, disappointing as this is probably my most used app after safari.

I am not a developer, so I really can't say what's involved with things like this but from a user standpoint, it really seems like it shouldn't be that complicated or take so long. I mean I could see how a small independant part-time developer might take a while, but with the money and resources a gigantic company like Facebook has you would think they have a whole team of developers working on the apps. If smaller companies like Readdle can do it, it shouldn't take this long for the big dogs!

Also, to answer OP's question, my crystal ball says dark mode will be officially implemented in WhatsApp on February 30th 2020 at 4:20pm PST.

It is ridiculous its taking this long. When I was on Facebook the other day I got asked if i wanted to try the new desktop beta site, it included a dark mode so hopefully they'll roll it out with WhatsApp as well soon.

I still don’t have it for gmail also...
Then update your GMail-App. It is there for a while (Settings - Design).

And yes, WhatsApp is ja joke! Even more if you compare it to the much smaller developer of Telegram Messenger.o_O

However, at least in Europe, you kind of have to use WhatsApp, since it is the most used messenger. iMessage is far less common because of all the Androids 😜

Can’t see that setting on gmail

- Open your Gmail app;
- Click on three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of the screen, next to the search bar;
- Scroll all the way to the bottom;
- Click on the gear icon (third from the bottom);
- Click on Theme and make your selection;
- Enjoy!

That option is simply not available to all users, even if one is running the latest version of the Gmail app. It's available for some, clearly, but not all. Not unusual that some features are switched on via a server side update rather than an update in the App Store.

Possibly, but this would be very strange for Google to have such a long gap (several months!) before enabling it for different users. I had it on both iPhone and iPad now for a while and I am based in Europe, so go figure...

I‘m on the TestFlight branch of WhatsApp and there is no real trace of a dark mode yet. They only recently compiled the app against the iOS 13 SDK (introducing haptic touch and other iOS 13 features) and then proceeded to disable all of them with the update after that.

That being said, the dark mode is pretty much done (it glitches through on Android beta versions occasionally), and has been for weeks... they just have to push out a version that contains it and flick the switch.

WhatsApp development is really messy in general.

You are absolutely on the ball with this post though it’s an utter mess!

Facebook is a chaotic place to work though, from what I have seen of some people I know who work in some of their offices globally. Bit of a mess.

Updated WhatsApp just now to version 2.20.10.

No dark mode to be seen… but, at least one iOS 13 feature has arrived: the new tab selection style! Maybe next time, dark mode? 😀

Regarding Gmail dark mode, it is a known fact that they are slowly rolling it out to groups of users at a time. Very slowly. It does not matter if you're on the latest version, it's enabled on their end. I have it, but I know others reported getting it a month before me and there are still people that have not gotten it.

Who knows why it's taking so long.

There are news of a TestFlight version 2.20.30.12 or 2.20.31 with dark mode enabled. Should be distributed soon to everyone on TestFlight.

Well at least we know it is coming! Finally!

Knowing these guys, can't say when it might be released though. These guys are notorious for delays.

Been trying to get into that Testflight forever...

WhatsApp invades the privacy of over 5 billion people in the world and Facebook has recently made WhatsApp upload people's contacts to its servers. Now it does not just access them on the device. So much for those who want to not upload contacts to Facebook, if they use WhatsApp, the contacts are with Facebook whether. they like/ want it or not. Where WhatsApp is not the number 1 application people use, the number one application is Facebook Messenger. Only Iran is the one that has Telegram as its number 1 application, but then they have Facebook Messenger as second, if I recall it correctly. I read this a while ago, the report was somewhere in mid-2019.

I abhor this rape of people's privacy and hope people get around.

You are better off without any TestFlight from Facebook Inc. They have been known to violate the privileges given to them under Apple's Enterprise certificate to rape people's privacy left, right and centre. I have a TestFlight with them but do not use it, I just use it to see what's coming (curious cat here).

You know if Apple really cared about privacy they should have released iMessage for Android and cut Facebook off in a brilliant move. Sometimes you can make a gesture for the greater good - iMessage for Android could be just that. I bet it would be a huge hit.
