WhatsApp faster on Edge than 3g?!

Guys,

With 5.1 3g toggle, I've noticed that using WhatsApp with Edge is MUCH faster than 3g!

Anyone noticed it too? or could it be that edge is actually faster for messaging or it is just a lack of 3g coverage in my country..?
