is there any good app for Whatsapp on the iPad? I was using the one from gorilla technologies on the App Store, but that one is a joke (full of ads, slow etc.). There was an app called ‚ChatMate for Whatsapp’ but it was pulled from the store (at least in germany) and has not returned ever since.

Edit: looking for an app that basically is whatsapp web, but with the advantage of notifications for new messages etc.

    Appreciate every suggestion.

It’s illegal to pretend to be some other app. You can easily use the web version of WhatsApp on the iPad.

I think you got me wrong. I was looking for an app that ‚mirrors‘ the web interface to an app (advantage like push notifications etc.)

Yes which is illegal if that app is not developed by the original service provider. Given Facebook, the current owner of WhatsApp, doesn’t see iPad as a priority, I say you better start using the web version if you really need to use it on an iPad.

Under my experience, that’s impossible. Somehow they designed the web version to detect that is being run on an iPad and redirect you to the main WhatsApp info page.

Oh really?! I never tried it personally to be honest, didn’t think they’d restrict it. It’s very easy to detect which device a website is being accessed from.

In that case I guess the OP is out of luck.

Ps. There might be an option to use puffin browser and load the desktop version?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Web version works if you request the desktop site within safari :)

I‘m having a hard time believing that this is illegal due to the fact that there is at least one app (that i know of) in the App Store. Apple would pull that app from the store if it violates any ToS, wouldn’t they?

In fact your mentioned App "Messenger for WhatsApp" from Gorilla Technologies seems to be the one you're looking for. As far as I can see you just want to avoid the in-App purchase for removing Ads, don't you? If everything works as desired and you just got annoyed the Ads, why not support it by buying it?

I do use the app but the user experience is horrible. It's definitely not that I dont want to pay for an ad-free experience. Just read the Ratings - the app charges 4,99 per week and Users are still seeing ads to some extend. The user Interface is horrible, too as there are bars which appear randomly resulting in not being able to see who im writing with nor being able to click on the profile. I would gladly pay a one time fee or on a monthly base if the app was at least ok-ish, dont get me wrong on that.

Sorry, but no, that’s not correct. Requesting the desktop site may seem to work the first time, but once you link the account the first time, subsequent times won’t work. Tested multiple times, and requesting the desktop time doesn’t work.

There’s simply no reliable way to use WhatsApp with safari in the iPad. I don’t know about other browsers.

They've done a Mac version so I really can't understand why they're dragging their heels on the iPad.

I use Whatapp Web in iPadOS beta using Safari. Safari on iPadOS is no longer requesting the mobile site, so it works without workarounds.
Create a shortcut on the springboard and you you can open it like an app.

It’s in development as I saw screenshots. Hopefully it’s not too far away

Ah cool. That’s good to know - hopefully the full app will also not be far behind
