So my hot take

1 as others have said I’d like an iPad app, even on my Pro Max screen 32 participants is going to be tiny!

2 for those of us with cellular watches can we have an Apple Watch app? It’s the only thing my watch lacks that would mean I could leave my phone behind or powered down for a lot of the time.

3 Whilst I realise for most people 4 devices signed in will be enough but why not make it match Apple so a maximum of 9 plus the phone?

4 Android users get their chats stored on Google drive free, why do we on iCloud have to use our storage?

Discord has like what, 300 million users at best? Whatsapp has over 2 billion users. If Discord breaks, nothing much will happen other than some streamers complaining. If Whatsapp breaks, there are institutions and governments whom services will be disrupted. It makes sense that Whatsapp takes things slower to ensure robustness.

Recent whatsapp improvements have been great, especially since they have allowed migration over different platforms (iOS to Android and vice versa). E2ee on backups is also great. The only thing remaining on my wishlist is probably multiple account support on one client.
Governments use Whatsapp? That's scary.

Probably due to some deal Whatsapp had with Google. Before the availability of e2ee, Google Drive whatsapp backup is practically plain text, and you can imagine the amount of data Google crawled. Nothing is free.
That makes sense but now it is e2ee they continue. I guess they are still reaping the benefits

E2ee backup is not enabled by default, so I can bet majority of users don’t take advantage of it.
Ah I didn’t know that I only came to WhatsApp after I got my first iPhone through my job, where I was advised it was the informal communication channel for making social arrangements etc, but not for work matters

Still no iPad app. Still no native app for the Mac after, what, a year of beta testing?
Odd that they are finally getting around to adding features to compete with Zoom and Teams, et al, (two years too late) but don't recognize that people use these on large screen devices like Macs and iPads.

Governments use Whatsapp? That's scary.
In Europe many public services use text interfaces to their normal IVR systems through whatsapp business to offer services to users based on their phone number on file. It's great for looking up information and getting account statues. It means they don't have have massive call centers and requests that require human assistance can go into a message queue that is much easier to manage on both ends than waiting on hold.
