iPhone WhatsApp - Lack of Notifications

Up to iOS 11.0.0, WhatsApp has worked fine on my iPhone 6S.

With both iOS 11.0.1 and 11.0.2, I've not always received notifications. It's as though Do Not Disturb is still active, as when I go into WhatsApp, it updates, and reorders my chats / groups, and shows the amount of unread messages.

Sometimes I'll get a notification through, but most of the time, nothing at all comes through.

I've tried turning notifications on and off; deleting WhatsApp, reinstalling; resetting network settings...

Has anyone else had a similar issue, if so, any suggestions on how to fix this?

Yes... me and my friends also have same behaviour. Not sure what screwed up Whatsapp. It badly needs an update as most of the notifications and messages are missed out due to this.

Is it WhatsApp though, as it would happen to everyone if that were the case, surely?

No it didn’t resolve anything. Still behaves the same. Not sure if it’s a whole compatibility thing with whatsapp and ios11

So I’ve contacted WhatsApp over this issue, have tried suggestions from them and Apple, with the last resort being to set up phone, rather than restore from a backup

Not impressed by that.

Is there a way to do this, and get the majority of my old settings back up and running with minimum disruption?

Any other suggestions?

From WhatsApp support:
When someone sends you a message while you are offline, this message is directed to Apple's Push Notification Service (APNS). From there, notifications to your phone depend on APNS and proper receipt and display of notifications depend on the iOS.

WhatsApp can't monitor or control the functionality of APNS and has no way to resolve related issues from our end. Regardless of the fact that the issue may only be presenting itself with WhatsApp notifications and not with other applications, the issue is still caused by the APNS or more likely your iOS.

The best and often only way to resolve this issue is to restore your phone back to factory settings without restoring a backup. We realize this resolution is less than desirable, but it should make WhatsApp notifications functional again.

From Whatappen dot com.

After some contacts with WhatsApp we can report the following:

It’s indeed an iOS 11 bug. It is affecting users who habitually force close their app. This behavior is fairly common among users because of the misconception that apps that appear in the multitasking screen are running in the background. The bug and issues are reported to Apple.

In the meantime WhatsApp is working on an own workaround. They think they have figured out a workaround and are testing it right now. If the test is successful, WhatsApp will release an update to the App Store in a few days.

WhatsApp advises that if you stop force closing the app, your issue is also resolved. Rumours that WhatsApp update 2.17.61 contains the bugfix are not true.

Yep, the latest app release has fixed the issue. Cheers for the info.
