Whatsapp-Feature.jpg
Following its username feature rollout, WhatsApp is now letting users save a contact's username when they add their name and phone number. The username field is shown between the first and last name fields and the phone number section.

You can add a new contact in WhatsApp by tapping the + button in the navigation bar of the Chats tab. According to WABetaInfo, when usernames become more widely available, WhatsApp will populate the username field automatically when users create a new contact from the chat info screen.

This story must be tongue-in-cheek, so I'll play along.

I'm blown away at the innovation at WhatsApp. They've done something no one has ever considered before: saving the username of the person you are communicating with. I hope in a future release, they let you carry on multiple conversations with different people. Imagine the possibilities.

I want to give a custom name to the conversation I am having with someone without saving them as a global contact.

I don't want the conversation to say "+342 548 8343 3243" and I don't want it to say "Shrek75". I want to give it a custom name and call it "Bob the carpenter from the 5th street".

Can I do that? If not, get back to work.

If we all just uninstalled it and stopped talking about it maybe it would go away. RCS without any of the Meta involvement for cross platform rich comms has got to be the way.

If your data is important to you, then you'll continue to use SMS and iMessage.
How is everyone else talking to friends in different countries though? I’d have to take an international poll to see if my friends have any other apps and if they have the same one. Otherwise I’m still stuck with the one I hate.

Use Email. 😉
If my friends to no accept, that i don’t want to use WhatsApp, they must accept that there are many other ways to talk or write.
Signal for example or simple: Short phone calls.

When I woke up to my reality of ~12 inboxes, all my responsibility, only 1 w/benefits and another 1 i chose. The rest were assigned at the convenience of someone else without asking me and presented like gifts in the soft light of gas.
But seriously. I friends scattered around the world but they don’t know each other so I can’t just take a poll. Signal is something I can ask people about tho. I don’t think it’s any worse than WA or here, for privacy/security last reviews I saw, but it’s better than the current one
