WhatsApp is rolling out a new design for message bubbles on iOS, reports WaBetaInfo. The platform's message bubbles are rounder than before with a softer shape – similar to iMessage – while shared media files appear without the original borders, giving them a cleaner look.

The message bubble update follows several Liquid Glass-based design changes that came to WhatsApp's chat interface on iPhone and iPad last month.

I could never move to Europe because I would never use WhatsApp.
As someone who used to adamantly agree and avoided WhatsApp like the plague —

It is better than iMessage in almost every way. The only reason left to use iMessage is iOS integrations like original-resolution photo transfer and location sharing.

Edit: for everyone replying that WhatsApp can do those: yes, I know. iMessage still does those features better.

You can do location sharing on Whatsapp? And photos are in original solution if you select "file" instead of "photo" when sharing

Aren’t the photos sent in WhatsApp full resolution?

Most of the time original resolution is NOT what I want. It's actually one thing I don't like abut using iMessage for general chats. If our family group was using iMessage, my 256GB would fill up in less than a year.

This is kind of huge. WhatsApp has been fantastically ugly. Like, it was a profound technical innovation to design something that could be so visually displeasing. The embarrassing background pattern, the dead-plant-meets-toothpaste message bubble color, the Windows 3.1 bubble shape, ick.

Not the prettiest design, but very space efficient. I hope they did not take too many design clues from iMessage.

I have a shortcut that compresses images, so I can save on space.

Both are possible on WhatsApp.

For image, you have to send it as a document.
And WhatsApp has live location sharing built in.

I live in Europe and don’t use what’s app.

Everyone using WhatsApp also have an iPhone and messages installed. So it’s never really a problem.
