People don't walk around with iPads in their pocket. How would they continuously record your audio with an iPad app?
You can just write. Honestly I prefer that. I hate hearing people blabbing for thirty seconds to the mic until they eventually remember that they actually where going to say. Just write, please.

And if people are so lazy to use the keyboard they can always dictate, best of both worlds: you get to not-write and I get to not-hear.

Yes.
Or, you know... call me.

- If it's urgent, call me
- It you want to talk and make it personal, call me
- If you want to convey information to me rapidly and without interrupting, write. I can see what it's about with a single glance.

I don't get why people have conversations made up of audio files.
Which incidentally are at least 2x slower wrt a call, since you for each message need X seconds to talk, then another X seconds to listen and a second or two to move the audio file across the interwebs.

Any phone call is demonstrably at least twice as fast, plus:

- if it's business, you get an immediate acknowledgement
- if it's personal... christ, it feels remotely like human contact.

Unless of course you don't want to interrupt... in which case write, since listening to you babbling endlessly is an interruption.

I don't get it, people are mad.

There was a time I would have agreed with you, but ever since they were swallowed whole by the mouse and started churning out schlock sequels it's been very hard for me to watch the train-wreck.
The mouse ruins everything.

I guess children need toys to play with while messaging?

I don't see why an adult would need these.
Meanwhile, stories are coming out now that more and more kids need glasses at earlier ages, thanks to staring at screens all the time.

I shifted away from Kakao (Korean) and LINE (most of Asia), to WhatsApp because of simplicity. now, it's it's becoming like all of them.

Aaaaaaaaaand, nobody cares.

Thurrott: EU Held €387K Metaverse Party For Fewer Than 10 People

Besides the writer, five other people were in the "party", and after just a little bit, everyone else left.

Oof.
I live in the UK but generally I am a Europhile. That being said, what a pointless and profligate waste of money, person-hours, and electrons. I get the overall goal of encouraging young folk to get engaged with EU government, but the Metaverse is only going to be affordable for richer older people. The only thing I can think of that has even the remotest chance of spurring the growth of the Metaverse is a red-light district. So much hype.

Horrid, like all the 3D cartoon-humanoid avatar systems.

The animal/fantasy Memoji’s are a bit less offensive but still have gormless ‘punch-me’ facial expressions.

Then, it'll be the Metaperverse. Lol.

They are making it for Android.

‘Nough said.
I've been taking the Android tablet development as a good sign. Like, if they make one tablet version, then hopefully that means they learned that tablets are a thing and the iPad version could also finally be coming. That's my hope, at least.

No more than Memoji, or Miis, or Xbox avatars, all of which look remarkably similar.
And all of which I've never used. Gimmicks galore. At best, they seem like a passing fad, something amusing to do in the moment and then move on from to do something meaningful.

Insane that Zuckerberg bet his whole company and the CIA's work I mean his life's work on this.

I confess; it is admittedly my age, but (for me) emojis are a waste of time other than quick responses where the subject doesn't deserve an elaborate response.

I’ll never understand why they changed the avatars. They used to be decent looking. Now they’re hideous

And I thought I was the only one. I kinda liked the old style that looked drawn. It made it different enough. I don't use them often enough to overly care one way or another, but they looked decent, as you put it. Memojis are using the "cute" factor while these tried to be a tad more realistic (proportions etc.). When they introduced the new 3D versions, they're just hideous because the lack the necessary depth and actual details for this style. Looks like mid-90s animation, and not in a good way...

These are cute, but why not avatars that are photo realistic (the tech is there) instead of representing us as comical marionettes?

And I wholeheartedly agree with you on that front too, mind you.
Was really solely referring to the craft itself as they are quite good at it, no uncanny valleys or uneasiness that I can remember… even them cars with faces stamped on their bumpers worked out.

On the movie quality though, the last movie I saw was “I can’t remember when nor which one was it” ages ago.

You missed my point. Facebook is listening to you any time messenger is running.
