China will probably start blocking apps that disable the clipboard with iOS 14. Apple will probably have to have a special version of iOS again not only for the China iCloud but also disable the clipboard notifications for users.

Mind boggling to think the FB is on our side. Or at least perceived to be.
Apple always have special version of iOS tailored to their local market. China is no exception.

That's my confusion as well. WhatsApp's statement appears to indicate that they have been complying. But if they cannot see messages because of encryption and they do not operate backup, they have no capability to comply. Would this suggest that either the statement is a PR stunt or they were lying about their end to end encryption?

A lot of things are operated on Whatsapp servers, amongst those are profile data, group chats (not encrypted at all) and legacy chats (though not supported anymore I believe). Also not being able to backup to Whatsapp directly doesn‘t mean they don‘t have the chats stored somehow.

Yes, but China is legally controlled by CCP, naturally HK's fate naturally decided by CCP.
Like I said, CCP does not have a copy of the signed treaty, then they don't even belong in the negotiation to begin with.
For CCP to gain access to UN, I blame Enver Hoxha of Albania for UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.
