It's not so much what's better but more about what those you want to talk to use. If most of your friends are on WhatsApp what good would LINE do for you?WhatsApp is kind of outdated in Asia. Everyone is now using LINE or WeChat. Both have voice & video calling. And LINE is already 100x profitable than WhatsApp on selling emoticons.
What would that "awful privacy protection track record" be exactly?I hardly used the terrible looking app. Luckily, most of my family and friends are on iOS.
After the Facebook deal was announced and I looked into it some more, I became aware of WhatsApp's awful privacy protection track record and immediately deleted my account and the app.
F&F that did use WhatsApp seem to be moving over to Telegram. I've received a few invites over the weekend and have tried out that app. It looks much better than WhatsApp (at least on iOS) and from what I've been able to find out online, it seems much more secure.
You might have a misconception of what the word "hemorrhaging" means, given the continued increase in Facebook's user numbers (overall and active).Lets face it Facebook is haemorrhaging users at the moment and they needed something to up their user base. I can't see this making any real difference as most young people now see Facebook as something to avoid and its only a matter of time before this starts to be noticeable. WhatsApp has a lot of competitors so I don't see their user base staying too stable either now they are part of FB.
So, if I do a simple math, I get a potential $465 million income per year for Whatsapp. At that rate it will take 38 years to break even on the investment Facebook made. I can only guess that there is something else going on here that they are investing in. Maybe they will have an additional charge for the voice or something? But if they stay with no ads and only charge 99 cents per year, I do not see the $19,000,000,000.00 investment making any sense.

Naturally, Brar began disputing his bill with Facebook. He wanted his clicks audited by a third party, to see how many were genuine. Then he discovered that Facebook's terms of service forbid third-party verification of its clicks...
At one point, data from Facebook indicated his ads had delivered 606,000 clicks, but the site itself registered only 160,000 incoming clicks from Facebook, according to data supplied by Brar.
iMessage works just fine for me. And people spend too much time texting anyways. Pick up the phone if you have more than 3 words to say!
So Whatsapp became so popular because people needed an IP text messaging service for Android, because they were limited to a certain number of free SMS messages, and because sending photos on sms was unreliable/not possible.
Is that correct? Why didn't Android ship with an iMessages like app built in? What would happen to Whatsapp if they started charging for the service and Google provided a free IP based messaging app? Someone educate me.
Kings of what? WhatsApp still has more users, so who exactly is not seeing trees or burgers here again?WeChat and Line are the kings whether you want to believe it or not.
Chances are if you're in north America you can't see the forest for the burgers.
WhatsApp will be dead soon enough.
