Ok so I've never fully paid attention to when Apps are first released on the App Store despite having had an iPhone for years. But is there a set schedule for when Apps are first added? Or could it be any day of the week?

Developers have a choice to set a set time and date for apps to be published. Otherwise there's no set schedule, it just happens as someone gives the OK (but to be honest, I'm basing that on AppShopper's given time that apps get updated).

Apple updates their feature pages every Thursday, except when you have a big publisher who decides to launch their new app on like a Tuesday or whatever.

ok so for example when Square Enix finally releases Final Fantasy VII it could drop at any time then? Would that be a featured one when it comes?

It COULD. Most likely they will have it setup to show up at a certain time though. That way they get a few hours where the gaming blogs, social media outlets, and message boards are all buzzing with anticipation and people are on the lookout for it.

And yeah, it would be featured, Square Enix is a huge name.
