LOL, nobody knows (other then a few people at apple) and so throwing these dates out is like throwing pasta at a wall. Eventually something will stick to the wall. Its all guesses though

Why the sarcasm?

I'm obviously new around here, but why the sarcasm in response to the OP's question?

Doesn't at least half the Mac buying public come to this website for insights and informed opinions regarding likely release dates of new iWhatevers, so they can feel better informed regarding whether / when to buy?

As a case in point, I personally visited the site looking for an informed opinion regarding the likely release date for the 2nd gen iPad (to help my other half decide when to buy).

As the iPad isn't listed in the Buyer's Guide @ https://buyersguide.macrumors.com// (why on earth not?), surely it's a reasonable question to ask?

Or am I, too, just being overly ignorant?

I thought this was obvious but I've seen this question like 10 times now. It's because the iPad doesn't have an established release pattern yet. If I asked you the pattern for this sequence, what would you tell me? 1, 3, 4, 6, 5, 7, 6 __? Now what if I asked you for the pattern here? 1, __? That's why iPad isn't in the buyer's guide.

If you can find this forum then you can easily find the search tool. For some reason people seem to think they're the first to ever ask certain recurring questions (to which they can't possibly get an answer anyhow). The result is that there are scores of threads on the same topic that clutter up the forum.

Whilst I appreciate your point regarding sequences, I don't agree that should prevent the iPad from being included in the Buyer's Guide.

For each of the other products, the Guide features a list of significant timing-related rumors. Do such rumors not exist for the iPad? Would it not make sense for the most salient such rumors to be listed in an iPad entry on the Guide, rather than requiring people to wade through pages of comments of significantly varying value?

The Guide's author very likely also has a personal opinion regarding the merit of buying now or waiting until later. It's one to which I'd certainly welcome being made privy.

And about half of those also start a new thread asking the same questions that have already been asked and discussed in several other threads.

That's the reason for the sarcasm; the info is already sitting here waiting for anyone to find it with a quick search or a quick review of the topics on the first two or three pages.

Actually, it was announced last week. You were too busy wondering when it would be announced, and you missed the announcement.

If certainty regarding answers is to be a pre-requisite for asking questions, this site would appear to be pointless (as only Apple knows any of the answers).

As for recurring questions, please see below.

Surely a Buyer's Guide iPad entry, with links to key posts and an opinion about timings, would make life easier for newcomers to the site and help to avoid the clutter of recurring questions?

Doesn't seem like rocket science to me, but then I'm no rocket scientist. ;)

Um, 8? The answer is 8. So, iPad 2 will be released on February 8th! Shoot, I missed it

No reports of any invitations to a Media Event next week so it looks like Feb is a no show. Some time in March looks likely now. Hope it is the first or second Tuesday

Looks like they are having a quiet roll out of the new MacPros. They do that when the product is only a spec upgrade and no major feature additions or changes. Now it is possible they will do the same for the iPad if all they change is an upgraded A4 and assorted other "tweaks" Just sayin.. basically I don't know what is going on with this, I just wish we'll have a decent leak soon.

I'm guessing that they will announce the MacBook Pros and sell them on the 24th and on the same day (same as the XOOM release date) they will announce the iPad 2 for a late March release.

iPad 2 Coming Saturday, April 2nd, or April 9th 2011

The release date for the iPad 2 will be either the first or second Saturday of April 2011. That is my best guess and most promising as I have been doing nothing but trying to determine the release date for the past 20 hours straight, or so.:D

All my bets are for April. And for everyone saying they are going to wait. Why? I will buy the iPad every time it is upgraded. I am not waiting a moment. I am not cheap, nor do I have a lot of money, but I have my priorities. And my iPad is right after my essential bills, so it is tops on my list. So you see, it doesn't matter because I will buy it when it comes out, and I am not going to worry about it. Then I will buy another when the next one comes out, even if it is still in the same year, which they won't do, but I would. Why is most everyone afraid of making a purchase. It's no big deal, right? As long as your account and apps/media comes with you with each hardware upgrade, I see no concern. It would be different if I wasn't able to take my purchases with me. I would never upgrade then.

Don't Be Stupid, Unless You Really Are

Never. The iPad is dead

Ouch! You should have got the 3G iPad like I have. It makes it much more valuable. Sorry for your luck. I have your equipment too, I just don't brag about it. But if I did, my iPad is 64GB with 3G (and of course all the other standards like wifi, which you mentioned as if it was an option or something)

BTW, are you just being stupid? Or are you stupid? If you truly are stupid, I apologize for telling you that the iPad is not dead. It is very much alive. Well, as alive as a machine can be. So much so that I turned off my cable television and only use my iPad (use the :apple: Apple TV2 via HDMI and REMOTE app) with other avenues of media to satisfy my multimedia thirst.

I might suggest they are going to wait till just after the Xoom launch to try and kill Xoom press media as much as possible.

I did suggest this a long time ago as a possible strategy.

If Apple launched the iPad2 and then 1 week later the Xoom launched then the iPad would only get 1 week of clear media news before everyone was talking about the new Xoom they just got.

Obviously no-one wants that to happen, even Apple.

Perhaps they will wait till just after the Xoom comes out to launch hence killing Xoom media coverage and giving the iPad2 a clear media run.

My guess right now is that Apple will officially announce the 2G iPad probably around March 15, 2010, with availability in early April 2011. I'm definitely going to order the 64 GB WiFi-only model if it's reasonably priced.

What if there's a 128GB Model? :D

I really doubt Apple would offer a 128 GB model now--it would be too expensive even for a WiFi-only model. Now with the 3G iPad, that might be a different story, especially since by 2012 the iPad may get a bump in display resolution so you can actually display 720p video natively.

These are supposed to be the memory costs 1 year ago:

• 16GB Flash memory, $29.50
• 32GB Flash memory, $59.00
• 64GB Flash memory, $118.00

And a 128GB Chip did come out at just the right time to be in an iPad2:
http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/06/17/toshiba-hits-128gb-with-new-nand-flash-memory/

"The company plans to ship the first samples of the 128GB module in September"

That was September last year.

is it foolish of me to hope that the new ipad will have some sort of hdmi connection.

I see all this android phones which can display the screen/content/games they are playing and output to the tv, which looks awesome.

yes i can get the apple tv, but that just more devices. which i really dont need.

also, that doesnt fix the problem for displaying games on the big screen
