When are they releasing the software unlock

Hopefully earlier. 
Or if it is 12 midnight let it be EST. I'm in Mountain time, so it would come earlier in the evening for me.

It doesn't matter, as long as you have internet, no matter where you are you can download it from cydia.
New Year's Eve. So if December 31st is New Year's Eve, then I'd say a guesstimate would be around 2PM Eastern Time US would be a good choice; however, they could go with 0:00:01AM Dec 31st....

A software unlock. One with just software. As opposed to a hardware unlock; the original required soldering and current 3G unlocks require a TurboSIM.
Pardon MY ignorance, but what the hell is this software unlock that's supposed to happen Jan. 1?
