When can we expect a new design of a Macbook?
2015 - 12" Macbook design
2016 - same 12" Macbook design
2017 - same 12" Macbook design
2018 - ?
2019 - ?

My wishlist (from the most to the least important):
1.FaceID with a 1080p webcam
2.4-core low power processor
3.LPDDR4 memmory
4.Nearly frameless oled screen and/or 4k screen (just a better one)
5.At least 2x USB type C with thunderbolt support and eGPU support

Personally, I would like to see Apple remove the Air from the lineup and then drop the price of the rMB, to take its place.

For features I would hope for a 1TB SSD option, longer lasting battery and new generation processor.

I would love to see extra ports, no bezels, etc. - but I don't expect to see a major design change anytime soon. Apple will eventually drop the Air, and the rMB seems to be the right choice to take its place in their low cost lineup. Right now the rMB is too close in price to the MBP, in my opinion.

2019 for sure AND THEN the M3 2018 MacBook will drop in price to replace the MacBook Air which is simply adding confusion to the polished range.

I'D LOVE TO SEE...
ProMotion - having the correct frame rate when watching iTunes film etc would be lovely as it can be jerky right now on panning.
P3 Wide Colour gamut 500 nits as MacBook Pro
Please keep my beautiful rose gold!
a 1TB SSD option would be lovely.

UK & European pricing is insane. The 20% price increase last year was truly repulsive and it's kind of priced it outside of my spending unfortunately. I agree with OldMike, the MacBook is priced too near to the MBKPro. I don't understand Apple's pricing strategy.

Other than that, the MacBook is truly perfect to me AND is my FAVOURITE Mac of all rime and this February, I've been using Macs for 23 years!!!

First Mac here was a Mac SE/30. Before that I was a Commodore fanatic. I've also used Windows for years as well (and still do).

I have to agree that this is one of my favorite Macs, if for nothing else than because I feel like I am cheating the system by doing much more on this rMB than what I expected to be able to do. I got a really good deal on my rMB - but would have a hard time justifying paying MSRP, when for not much more there are brand new 2016 15" TB MBPs floating around...

My original plan was to pick up an iMac after the rMB purchase - but I just don't feel like it is necessary yet. Though I am having to keep my eye on disk space (512GB) and I could definitely benefit by having more than the 8GB RAM that my machine currently has.

My plan is to hold out for a price drop and hopefully larger storage option. Then I may jump on another one, if the price is right.

the pros have a 4 year design cycle precedent, but the Macbook's predecessors are all very random, so the honest answer would have to be 'could be any time'. The air gen 1 lasted 2008-2009, but then the gen 2 went 2010-2015. If I had to say, I think they are probably more focused on re-using the chassis so they can get the cost down than refreshing what is still a really good looking laptop.

I doubt there will be any redesigns for the retina Macbook. Other than the keyboard (which was fixed in last year's model), it is still a great laptop (and arguably with the best speaker for its class).

We won't see FaceID. Apple just put Touch ID on the Touchbar Macbook Pro last year. I doubt the cost (and production constraint) is worth it to put it on an entry level Mac laptop.

2018 retina Macbook will be just a spec upgrade to (hopefully) Cannon lake. If intel is slackin off, I have a feeling we won't even see a refresh at all, and maybe just a price drop (and eliminate the Macbook Air).

Have a feeling Apple is focusing on transitioning to their Ax chips rather than designing things for intel.

I love the current design. Can't see how they can improve it but then I'm not a designer. Just improvements in the components is enough for me.

Agree with your wishlist except the frameless display. I think I'm in the minority but having a bezel, not too thick, helps a lot with the style and keeps whatever is behind the display from distracting me. I checked out the Dell XPS 13 with super thin bezels, great laptop but the display looks odd to me...

Smaller bezels (I don't care if they move the camera to the bottom like Dell did, I never use it), better battery, touch bar option, 3-4 ports (probably only going to give us 2 as to distinguish from the pro model), a true space gray color (very dark).

I like the current design so I’m not that bothered about a redesign, however I would like to see a 14” version of the Macbook similar to how the MacBook Air had two versions of 11” and 13” the price of the 12” MacBook could then be dropped and higher specs for the 14” MacBook made available.

It needs a better camera, faster Gen 8 CPU, DDR4 RAM, and make the headphone jack a USB C....we will still retain the headphone option with an adapter via USB C, we could then charge it from either side.

I'm the opposite with iMac, I have the original iMac that I used at university for my degree but you know what - it's never used because it's a desktop - it just sits in the corner of a room looking retro :) My MacBook fits into my life.
The iMac wasn't good though as half way through my degree, the hard drive failed and I lost my half written dissertation plus it cost £200 to replace the harddrive at the time for a 18 month old iMac. I was young, I think I was ripped off by the store!
On a plus note, the iMac has NEVER been updated or connected to the internet so it still runs as fast as day one :) :) :) - that's one computer that Apple WILL NEVER knowingly slow down :) Yes, I beat the system :)

I wouldn't object to a second USB-C port.....that would be VERY useful! It would be nice, too, if they offered 1 TB storage, but I'm really fine with the current 512 GB and I have external drives to stash stuff that I don't really need on my machine all the time anyway. Definitely the increase in the RAM to 16 GB was a factor in my decision to purchase the 2017 MacBook, even though I was pretty happy with my 2016.....

While I like Face ID on my iPhone I don't really have a need for it on my MacBook, but I can see how others might really appreciate this security tool.

I don't see them doing much to change the overall design of this machine, as it is pretty elegant, sleek, lightweight and functional all at the same time already.

I'd like to see a better keyboard. I know it was just redesigned but after 6 months with the latest MB, it still feels odd to type on. Every time I go back to the MacBook Air, the keyboard feels just right.

I'd also like to see the display's bezel's to go slimmer like the XPS 13's.

My MacBook 2015 model is one the best devices I've bought.

For a new model, my main wish would be inbuilt cellular. I'm OK plugging my iPhone into the MacBook when away from home, but it would be easier to have a SIM card in the MacBook. Plus, where I am home internet is starting to become cheaper to run though cellular than a wired/wifi connection.

Aside from that, colours- I want a white one.

Quad core chip option
Screen to match MBP quality
2nd USB c port
Better camera
Reduced bezel

I find the keyboard is a little too spaced out. I'd prefer the keys a little closer, so the machine could be a bit smaller with the bezel reduction.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro (which I love) and a Late 2010 MacBook Air with only 2gb of RAM. It works pretty well on High Sierra, however, if Apple updates the MacBook I might get one of those to replace my MBA. I would not get another MBA because the screen is not Retina and once you are used to Retina, it is hard to go back to a non-retina screen.

I just hope it gets a spec bump with new Intel 8th Gen. CPU's, 16GB RAM, and I do not really care about SSD size. I would like to try a MacBook out. I have my MacBook Pro for Pro level stuff and I would use the MB to carry around if I go somewhere etc...

Question for current owners: How is the M3 processors that come in the MacBook. Powerful enough for High Sierra?

I'm running high sierra on my 1.1GHz base model 2015 rMB no problems. Don't notice any lag.

Graphics are all smooth and everything? I had no clue until I just looked at Apples website that you could get an i5 or i7 in the MacBook! Does the i7 throttle a lot because of how thin the MacBook is and heat issues? Is it good at cooling? Thanks for the feedback!

Because the richest company in the world can't afford to have more than 5 different laptops in the showroom or what?

Because they should suddenly throw out the strategy that got them to that point and implement an HP style 'high sales low profit margin' strategy instead?
