So, when can we expect the Public Beta 1? I guess it will come with Developer Preview 2. Is that supposed to be in 2 weeks from now?

June 19th or 26th. I believe DP2 was 3 weeks out from DP1 last year (and the remainder of DPs 2 weeks apart).

I wouldn't rule out next week. It all depends how severe the issues are and whether they require immediate fix or not.

My guess is Beta 2 on Tuesday June 20th. After the initial Monday release of beta 1, they almost always go to 2 week cycles, but switch to Tuesday’s.

They need DP2 next week with all the bugs on iOS. We can't use TestFlight, some having Apple Pay issues, can't view our Apple ID. Some can't use the App Store even. If they wait 2 or 3 weeks, a lot of people gonna be very angry...

That's not how betas work. You know what you're signing up for, so releases are dictated by goals or milestones rather than user request.

I know that, that's why I used the wording they need to. I doubt the next beta will be next week unreality. It's high likely it will be in 3 weeks likely on the 19th with PB! the next day...

It's not like you can't roll back to iOS 10.3.2.

This is a mostly pointless thread (as all the countless "when will the next beta drop" are) with many misconceptions. Here is the basics of the way it works and it takes time for the steps. If you are not willing to put up with bugs and/or inpatient for new releases it is best to sit out the beta process.

  1. Apple does in internal testing and then decided to release a beta
  2. Apple releases a beta to be tested (not intended to be used as complete)
  3. People test and find bugs OVER a time period
  4. People then BR the bugs
  5. Apple engineers then try and replicate the bugs to see if it needs a code write or patch
  6. Code must be written and then internal testing to be sure it hasn't created new and BIGER bugs
  7. New code must be approved for the next release
  8. New beta is released with fixes
When all of this is complete we will get a new beta. It may be Monday, next week, 2 weeks or about anytime. While Apple seems to like a 2 week release cycle it is still dependent on MANY factors and varies.

For betas I would be more in favor of a “nightly builds” type of format. Not literally to have something pushed out each night. But to have a way to update bug fixes quicker if that make sense.

For the love of all things holy I hope the next update brings back compatibility with content blockers. It would improve things tremendously on my end. The resources that are wasted on ads and scripts are killing my RAM and battery like you wouldn’t believe.

They said end of the month for PB. So that means DP 2 and PB 1 will be the week of the 26th.

26/27th for DP 2
28/29th for PB 1

I wouldn't rule out next week. It all depends how severe the issues are and whether they require immediate fix or not.

All the engineers were at wwdc this week. I doubt they got any meaningful work done to launch a new build to the public.

By public I mean non-internal build.

There is no chance beta 1 will be a sub-two week build. It will be a minimum of two but most likely three like most previous years.

They probably do nightly builds internally. Just not for Devs.
There's probably an Apple internal profile somewhere that iPhones within the Apple dev team install to get the nightly builds. Seeing as there's actually an internal Apple app store, it shouldn't be a surprise.

I think they left out a lot of things to be tested this time, so a quick “feature” only beta 2 w/o any, or minimal bugfixes is plausible...

I though public beta 1 for major full number releases usually coincide with dev beta 3.

Normally yes, DP3 is PB1 also. However normally they release PB in July, not late June like they said this time, so we don't know yet. I'm still hoping we get DP2 tomorrow to fix these bugs but I would not bet on it.
