Oh wow. I was hoping a bit for an update 10.5 this spring, but if they just released last June it might not be until this time next year that they get updated.

I'd expect something around WWDC again for the X revision. Spring for the low cost option.
I’m not so sure Face ID will make it into ALL iPad Pro models. It is being used a reason to charge more/ up-sell. Maybe it’ll only be in the 12.9.

Also.....they just slightly increased the size with the new 10.5 and made a larger Smart Keyboard. Reducing the bezels of the 10.5 would make it physically smaller than the 9.7 which would further cramp the Smart Keyboard design. Just food for thought.

I really hope there’ll announce a physically smaller 12.9, by that I mean less bezels yet same screen.

However, I rather have them focus on the software. iOS 12 needs to take a major step to evolve the iPad. New hardware won’t make it into a laptop replacement, only software will.

They may very well do that, but my uneducated opinion is that bezels can serve a purpose, and for the iPad its a landing area for your palm. Unlike a phone which you hold from the rear. You hold the iPad (when its not on the desk), by the side. Having no or little bezels with that in mind may not make sense.

The 10.5 is the flagship as the 12.9 is bit more niche so I would imagine both sizes getting Face ID and the redesign. There was also feature parity between both models last year so we can use that as guidance. You are correct regarding the size. I would imagine we may see an increase in screen sizes to account for this. Obviously this is just my opinion based on what reports I have seen so who knows. Should be interesting either way.

You have a really good point, but since Apple didn’t care about that when making the 10.5 iPad Pro with thinner bezels, it makes no sense why the 12.9 still has larger bezels. I don’t think Apple knows what they want or what their brand is anymore.

That sort of makes sense....but another screen increase in just a year? There are so many apps that aren’t even iPad optimized for split screen let alone larger screen sizes for iPad.

I am excited to see what they announce. I am looking for a iPad to bridge the gap between my 15" MCP(Touch Bar) and the iPhone X

I agree. I don’t see the 10.5 screen changing sizes again for at least a few years.

I am wondering how FaceID will work with iPad... Because on iPhone X (I had someone explain to me how it work, since iPhone is not my thing), it requires you lift the phone and swipe up the lock screen.

I usually put my iPad Pro on a stand with keyboard and it never really left my table. I won’t want lift the iPad and the swipe the screen.

I could be wrong. I am perfectly happy with my iPad Pro 12.9 inch. I wouldn’t want go 10.5 inch at all. I love big screens.

The only reason you have to lift the iPhone is to pointed at you, and to wake the screen. I would imagine if it was on the iPad, and the iPad was already on a stand facing you, you could just tap the screen to wake it.

My wish list for the next iPad definitely includes force touch, but I don’t know if that’s possible on the big screen yet, I would think it would be. And as thin as it is, I would love it to be even thinner, like my Kindle. And lighter:)

You know I could care less about FaceID or Force Touch or anything. I wanted iPad that offers great solution for productivities and multitasking capabilities.

I would love multi-windows setup, mouse support (for excel sheets etc, PowerPoint stuff etc) things like that. I put my iPad Pro beside my ThinkPad Laptop that attached to a separate monitor, I often think how much iPad Pro would be if it has a OS that uses its full power. Rather than restrestive iOS. I sometimes feel I can do more with my Android phone than iPad Pro.

Then why don’t you just stay on Android and get the Surface Pro.

I have ThinkPad, I have Android phone. Android tablet is crap, there aren’t any good Android tablet that attract me. Surface Pro is under my consideration. I would use iPad Pro for the 90 days return period and see how it going.

The iPad Pro I got was on sale. It is still cheaper than Surface Pro.

Why are you getting so upset and offensive on this?

iPad Pro has great hardware, it is very good. It is held up by iOS. Apple need better OS for its tablet line up.

I'm very happy with my 10.5 iPad and my second-generation 12.9 iPad, both purchased fairly recently, so I will be sitting out whatever the next iteration of each is..... One reason i did purchase these two so close together is due to that parity between the two of them in terms of features, functionality and capacity. Something I much appreciate. As for the Face ID, I am really enjoying that on my iPhone X and eventually will with another generation or two of the iPad. All of my devices are already sitting around on stands at home so glancing at one when a notification, text or email comes in is not a big deal anyway......

I use my 12.9 in landscape most of the time with Apples Smart Keyboard. I personally wise the camera and potential face ID would be on the side of the new iPad instead of where it currently is. It would work so much better (for me). I do tons of online teaching and just do not like the weird angle I have to use with the iPad cameras position. It makes me want to keep reaching for my MacBook instead.

I'm looking forward to the next release as Im almost completely iPad only now. except... the camera angle.. All personal preference but theres a reason laptops have the camera where they do.

Yeah, but the Pro model doesn’t have to stay there. 10.5” screens could trickle down to base model status while the Pros get the iPhone X treatment to 11.7” or whatever.

Ming Chi Kuo has predicted that the 10.5" iPad Pro and the 12.9" iPad Pro both will come this year with slimmer bezels and Face Id. I am really excited for buying the 10.5" iPad Pro with no home button, slimmer bezels and Face Id. That would be a wow product. But still only if it had an OLED Display aswell.

I believe all he said was that the Pro’s were getting Face ID and slimmer bezels. No mention of screen size, so you could assume he meant they’ll keep existing screen sizes and shrink overall device size, but most likely (in my opinion) the screen size grows to fill the extra space gained from thinner bezels. Staying LCD too.

The bezel less iPads probably won’t make an appearance until mid year the earliest in order to give more top revenue time to last year’s pros.
