When do apple charge for a preorder

I have preordered and apple tv off apples store. When do they take the money is it straight away?

When they ship but they may run the card when you do order to ensure funds are available and/or the card is valid. Also this is in the US, it may not be the same in another country.

Do they put a hold on the money till it ships?

If it is a debit card they may. Logic says do not buy unless you have the money today.

I paid on a debt card and money was taken straight away.

I paid with a debit card too and they charged it straight away. I feel pretty confident that they wont run off with my cash though...

I paid with a debit card, they put a charge to check the funds were there, then cancelled the charge.. So I presume they'll charge me when it ships.
