When do you charge your iPhone?
Every night.

i heard my brother in law told my sister, don't charge it yet, or else ull kill the battery life faster. meaning to say, if she charges her phone all the time, it will decrease battery life. is there validity to this?
Always consider the source. Where did your brother-in-law get this info?

As always with threads on this topic:

Every night when I get home. The possibility of shortening battery life is far outweighed by the more immediate concern of having my phone die out in the middle of nowhere.

I do the same, but I noticed that if I forget to charge it at night, it will be nearly dead in the morning.

Either your battery is getting tired and/or you may have a lot of backgrounds services running.

I've always charged my iPhone (& iPad for that matter) when it gets below 20% and you get that warning message flash up on the screen. I follow the principle of : charge it to max, use it til battery is almost dead then recharge it again.

I think it's unnecessary to charge it every night (unless its on a nightstand or something).

I do the same as this. For both my iPhone and iPad as well.

Plug my iPhone 5 in to charge every night regardless of percent of charged to start day at 100%. Always lasts all day for what I need it for.

It's best to charge a lithium based battery above 50% to prolong the batteries life as much as possible.

Never bother to look at percentage. I charge it every night. If I forget one night I just charge it the next night. It lasts two days, no problem.
