Hello guys! I'm new to the forum. Recently, I replaced my 2013 Macbook Pro to a 2019 one. My question is... Do you shut down your Macbook Pro or just put it to sleep? I read online that it's better to just put it on power nap. Is it safe to put it on sleep while it's in my backpack while I'm travelling? Sorry for my stupid question.

It depends a bit on what your definition of 'travelling' is.

When I had an office job, I would just sleep it for the commute on the train/tram/car.

If I'm going away for a week and take it with me, I'll usually shut it down, because I don't know quite when I'm going to use it. Part of this is because I had a bad experience with a 2011 model that woke up (while closed) in my bag, and obviously got very hot.

What I mean by travelling is just putting it in my backpack and walking 15 minutes from my house to my workplace. I never carried my old 2013 Macbook Pro out of my house because it's so heavy so it's my first time bringing out my laptop in the wild haha! What I like about putting it to sleep is that when you opened it it's instantly turning on while when shutting it down, I have to wait for it to load. I'm just quite not sure if it's a bad or good thing to do.

I just sleep the computer because I use it for tasks early in the morning at home.. I do fully restart every month

I shut it down about once every 2 or 3 months. Either for a software update that requires a reboot, or occasionally something is misbehaving that I cannot figure out - but in both those scenarios I'm immediately rebooting it. I basically never leave if fully off for any period of time. The only reason I would, would be if I was going away for months and not bringing it for some reason.

Same as the above. I rarely shut it completely unless I'm restarting for an update or problem. I might shut it the week of Christmas since I'll be out of school and off work (also school).

I shut mine down all the time when im traveling to save battery I reckon it doesn't take that long to come back on but everyones different I think its all about preferences but that just my way. im just curious does It drain the battery in sleep mode compared to it being turned off

It does use a small amount of energy while asleep. Yes.

For the “commute to work” type trip it’s probably debatable which uses more power: the time while asleep or the intensive activity during shutdown and startup.
