Apple always puts the new products on display after they have been released for 7 days.

They definitely didn't do that with the iPad (1). I got the iPad on launch day, and they had display models already on the tables.
 
iPhone 4 was also available to use on the launch day in store.

I would imagine demo units will be in store on day of release. So this Friday 14th.

yea, thats not true at all. Well at least out here in the Chicagoland.

New Apple products are typically on display the day of launch.
 
3G + 3GS were on display when I queued for mine on launch days (Although this was in carphone warehouse + o2).

Refrained from using them though, just waited until I got mine at home.
