Just wondered, what with all the rumours & O2 exclusivity ending around 9th October, its not long to go. If its gonna happen, do you think it will be around this time? & how much notice will be given?

Im thinking in terms of pre ordering etc & usually this type of occasion would merit some hype & publicity dont you think???

My guess is soon afterwards. I don't see why they would waste any time.

My big question is if this means we'll be able to buy unlocked iPhones at the Apple Store. Seems the most practical solution if they will be licensing it to three providers.

Didn't i read ages ago that they will only be getting the 3G and not the 3GS model which would remain with O2?

Yeah that seems to be whats on the cards but at this point I dont care, I had the 3GS on O2 but was let out my contract due to unexplained signal loss in my area. So now im back using my original iPhone as I sold my 3G!!! Its not a very good phone now compare to 3G/3GS so im champing at the bit to take a contract iphone with Tmobile. Im on the fixed solo sim with them just now.

Yes i would have thought so, after all i believe they had the original article first about T-Mobile sneakily offering their high rolling customers iPhones.

Mhm, I'm moving to UK on Monday and actually I wanted to sign an O2 contract right after arrival, but now I am a bit insecure. I have no problem with using O2 itself, unlock would just be nice as I am often in Germany, the Netherlands and the US and I have different Sims in every country. Or is it possible that I can just unlock my iPhone with O2 in case it will be made available by other providers?
And how reliable is this rumor anyway?

Its worth waiting until around October 9th rather than commiting to O2, there has been many network issues with O2 & actually thats the reason i was let out my latest contract, what annoyed me the most was they said there wasnt any problem in my area other than it was a poor signal area, funny how it was fine for 2 years & actually previously when i was an o2 customer it was fine then, same area also.

    So just wait & see

Ok, but I need a mobile number anyway. Now I am using an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 2G. So zould I just get a pre-paid sim from any carrier and transfer the number to any contract I choose later? I really have no sense in telling people new mobile numbers every few weeks...

I have only had one day when the network was down, i always gets 3-5 bars of 3G, never had a dropped call or anything even remotely to complain about.

Yeah, personally I wouldnt recommend committing to O2! but if iPhone doesnt become available anywhere else, I have read a lot about O2 Simplicity sim card, so you should check that out & it means you arent tied.
