I wonder if they'd wait 14 days after they starting taking orders for the MBA to avoid having to deal with "returns" of people's release day orders in exchange for whatever the BTS promotion ends up being. Especially since the MBA is probably targeted more at students than a rMBP.

I'm not sure of how many people, outside of this forum, will have ordered on release day itself. Last time I believe bts started right after WWDC, so this is unusual.

It would be ideal for Apple to let people who already ordered the new Air to also be able to redeem the BTS gift, whenever they choose to announce it.

I doubt they'd do that, but could you hypothetically just return the new MBA on paper, then repurchase it, along with the Gift Card, iPod, or whatever the gift is??

That is exactly why apple should do it to avoid this situation

The Australia and New Zealand 'Back to School' promo occurs in January and that went ahead this year, so I don't see why they would stop doing it for the US and UK/Europe.

I hope that's not the case because then I'll have to wait all summer to replace my MBA :(

(though it's not like my current Air is bad, so the wait won't be unbearable)

i hear you, waiting sucks :p

me i am hoping it line's up with my state's tax free weekend which is in August.

I wish Colorado did a tax free weekend (or even a day). Then I'd definitely wait until that day to make my expensive purchases.

where are you on Colorado? Texas and New Mexico have one. of course you'd have to check to see if computers are covered as that's not always the case.

or maybe they realized that "back to school" doesn't really apply 3 months before most people in fact go back to school?

yeah, it has struck me as odd that apple would end their bts deal in september - when many kids are just getting situated - and haven't yet settled on realizing they need a new computer.

the nearby university has an authorized dealer in their bookstore, and they are always very busy in sept and oct.

what does apple know that we don't? not wanting too successful of a promotion?

I wanted to get the current iMac on the BTS offer but now holding out for the updated imac with PCIE SSD. Don't think the BTS will last until the release later this year

I hope they release Retina Macbook pro 15 before the back to school event ends.

as in this summer? i wouldn't hold my breath, but you never know!
they often do another sales event for the holiday market towards the end of the year that might time nicely with new MBPs and iPads.

COME ON APPLE!!! I'm going to wait a bit longer, but if it's not out by Friday COB, then I'm pulling the trigger.

I think students in the UK are among the luckiest when it comes to discounts.

14% discount on Macs, free 3-year warranty, plus the £70 Store voucher. I can't wait for Back to School so I can buy the new 13" MBA.

Agreed! I took advantage of the programme last year and bought my lovely little MBA 11", which I plan to sell and upgrade to latest model, and because of all the discounts (and gift card), the upgrade will not be much out of pocket, if any at all.

no such thing as free, mate.
still cheaper over here in the states

Every student in 2013 understands when need a new computer. Maybe they are too preoccupied over the summer to think about it, but a college age student would have to be pretty dense to not understand there machine has become too slow or isn't powerful enough for the work they are doing. But for those who don't plan, they can't expect to buy at the best prices.

The entire object of any promotion is to get people to buy when a company most needs to sell -- usually when there is too much inventory or a traditionally slow sales period. That is why Apple has traditionally held the BTS offer in the summer -- it's not because its feeling altruistic and want to give students an extra break.

I am hoping it starts tomorrow. They took the Fathers Day stuf off the store the other day. Hopefully BTS is up next.

I chatted with an Apple Store rep last night. While he wouldn't say when the BTS sale was, he did give me a "wait" when I mentioned I was a student trying to maximize my discounts. I wouldn't be surprised if it starts this week.

I'm getting overly excited about the iPad mini rumor xD

I am the same way. I just can't imagine them giving Minis away. When I got mine 5 years ago, I received a printer and iPod. If you wanted to upgrade you would get the money towards a better device. I think that is the best thing to hope for as far as Minis go. I will be happy if it is something other than a gift card. I won't complain either way though.
