iPhone When iOS 6 is released, will it be impossible to downgrade to 5.1.1?

    Hi guys,

So I have a question. I did search and didn't quite find an answer that directly answered my question. This is my question. Suppose iOS 6 is released TOMORROW, and with that, Apple, long overdue, finally stops signing iOS 5.1.1, a sad day indeed. A few hours later, I have to restore my jailbroken iPhone 4S. Will there be any way to reinstall iOS 5.1.1 at that point, or will I be SOL until an iOS 6 JB is released? I understand the business about SHSH blobs and of course have mine saved, but is it not true that Apple patched that exploit by issuing a random "ticket" each time you do a firmware install, or something along those lines? Basically, as someone who restores his iPhone about once every three days, I want to know if iOS 6 will spell the end to my latest "hobby".

    Thanks for any help!

    Alec

Thanks for your reply. So are you saying that for A5 devices like the 4S, TinyUmbrella's saved SHSH blobs are NOT sufficient to downgrade back to 5.1.1? (in the future of course, once Apple stops signing 5.1.1) Do I need to get Redsn0w in order to properly backup the downgrade prerequisites? (SHSH/APTicket)

    Thanks again,
    alec

no once Apple has stopped signing it will be to late. you should be backing up your shsh and apt ticket now. Redsn0w can do that you might check the link TriJetHero list. I'm thinking he did it for a reason. ;)

Well I do have my SHSH blobs saved using TinyUmbrella plus whatever Cydia does automatically.*So are you saying TinyUmbrella and Cydia SHSH backups do NOT account for the APTicket required to downgrade an iPhone 4S, and the only way to do that is with Redsn0w?

If you used TinyUmbrella to save 5.1.1 hashes, your APTicket was also saved.

Well, the dev team says otherwise: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/31869383801/blob-o-riffic

When Apple stops signing 5.1.1, you will not be able to downgrade iPhone 4S, even WITH SHSH blobs!

Yep, they reversed there position on the restores.

    BUT

Do save your SHSH/APTicket anyway, when 5.0 came out downgrades were not possible as well, until the devs found a way to get it working, a lot of people said: don't need blobs, they are useless....history tends to repeat itself...save them anyway and have patiences
