I would like to know when will Apple be refreshing their next Macbooks based on their refresh cycle ? Will be in 2019 or 2020 ? If its next year i was thinking to hold-on to my purchase.

I'm wondering with all the issues reported in the current design (2016-2018) like the Touchbar, Keyboard, touch, missing ports like SD card/USB, heating issues make apple to re-design their next generation macbook pro's ?

2020 most probably, they redesigned the MBP lineup every 4 years, and the last redesign was in 2016.

Thanks. If they stick to this policy of 4 yrs for every refresh then its going to be 2020 then.

With the latest reports that Intel won't have the new 10nm chips ready until end of next year, we will definitely not see a redesign next year.

Next chassis redesign is due in 2020, if Apple follows its usual cycle. Upgrades depend on hardware availability.

If you don't like where Apple is going with their design, I'd recommend you to look elsewhere. They are clearly committed to their vision and I don't think they will regress from it. At any rate, they are certainly not downgrading the ports or to going back to old style keyboard. I also doubt it that the Touch Bar is going anywhere.

LOL! If you are waiting for the SD card slot and USB port to come back . . . . well you better take care of what you got as it is not going to happen!

Intel is in a boatload of hurt right now, they just can't seem to solve their issues with the x86 chip. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised to see the next major redesign to use Apple's ARM CPUs. They'll have nearly full control of the entire Mac at that point.

That would be nice to see in the next redesign.
But i'm wondering how bootcamp/Windows would work with Apple ARM CPU's? Usually the bootcamp drivers suck as they are already :))

At the moment it's just a guessing game, I'd bet on 2020 with a redesign.

I think they will update it in 2020 IF the 12” Macbook will get a redesign next year, maybe the first with arm and 15-20 hours battery life

I would not be surprised to see Apple abandon bootcamp all together. and go for VM based emulation. VM technology is moving rapidly in the large server space.

I would bet money that 2020-2021 will still have Intel inside.

Apple is clearly not that eager to develop new processors for Macs. Financial Results speak for themselves :)

For years they did not develop their own processors for the phones and tablets also. Now....

Also, having their own processor completes a large part of "Sand". Steve Job's vision of silica sand go in one end of the plant and computer coming out the other side. With Apple controlling every step of the process.

20 hrs of battery life would be sweet and I agree w/ 2020 for a redesign.

With the way Mac sales are performing, you can expect refreshes sooner rather than later.

It heavily depends on when Intel releases CPUs that are compatible with the MacBook Pro, AND that suits Apple's needs for graphics. Intel delayed Cannonlake again until end of 2019...so if there is another 14nm model after Coffee Lake that comes next summer, expect an update then...if not, its going to be a long wait.

2020 MBP refresh is a reasonable bet. 2020 MacBook with an ARM processor is probably also a safe bet.

Are you saying that MBP sales are underperforming? Do you have any data on this?

Apple announced their Q3'18 results earlier this week.

Sales are at a 7 year low.

Ah, that. I dont think these results are surprising, everybody was waiting for an upgrade (which came last month for the MBP). It’s a shame that the industry can’t deliver regular updates to core components (CPU/GPU). We used to have a new gen every two years, now it’s just constant rebranding...

It’s surprising becuase PC shipments have been growing in the same period. Apple is backed by the massive brand recognition. Yet, Mac sales are at best, flat.
