im trying to figure out when the holiday return period starts and what it actually isn't?

Silly for me to ask about anything other then Apple with that question.

I'll take it you have no idea.

Does anyone know the policy for apple?

I do know. Here you go. Not sure how up to date it is but it is what I found.

Normally, the Apple Store — online and retail — offers a 14-day return policy on any item sold. For the holidays, the company has expanded this window: If an item was purchased between November 1 and December 25, you have until January 8 to return or exchange it

Items purchased at the Apple Online Store between November 1, and December 25, may be returned through January 8.

Fees: Apple returns are free and will allow customers to either schedule a shipping pickup time or drop off the package at any of the carrier’s locations.

Exceptions: Apple will not accept returns on products such as installed software, gift cards, print products, tech support, and software downloads or upgrades.

That has been posted on 3rd party sites... Specifically for 2014. But I'm not saying that it isn't true. I just can't find it on Apple website.

I have both called and live chatted with Apple in the last week. They both confirmed that purchases from Nov 1 - Dec 25 can be returned until Jan 8 2016

Already kicked in at Best Buy. Return date for purchases now is January 15th.

And why just Apple? You ain't getting 18 months interest free from them, OP.
