Is there ANY expected date of when the new MacBook Air is going to drop? With a total redesign?! Not just throwing in the new processor, Apple! I'm talking TOTAL redesign! Every single ounce of aluminum. Every pixel. Every single CELL in the MacBook Air being totally redesigned from the current design. I need to get a new gift for my wife and she does not settle for half measures.

I think the first sign that a redesign is going to be happening will be when we start hearing gossip about a redesign. And honestly, there hasn't been very much gossip about a redesign yet. I'm not sure if this is what will cause it, but definitely in the future when the OLED comes to the MacBook Air there will have to be a redesign for that. That could be a long ways away, cause it isn't even in the MacBook Pro yet.

Why would they change something that works sells well and the rest are trying to copy.
Because the notch is a pain in the rear end and it should go away and never have been there in the first place and I hate it and it sucks and it's a terrible design and it should go away and never come back!

Also, maybe to get rid of the notch. I hear i can be derisive.

Realistically though, the Macbook Pro will get the redesign first, that's supposed to be sometime before Christmas, although with AI gobbling all of the RAM up, who knows. I'd expect the Air re-design 6 months to a year after.

Hopefully sooner rather than later to differentiate it more from the Neo. Especially in weight. It is not very "Airy" compared to the competition and now their ENTRY MacBook.

I can't imagine they are planning to change the Air anytime soon. They're fixated on post-Cook, iphone 20, chip shortage and likely Macbook Pro ultra. I don't need a redesign at all, since I just got the M5. My only gripe is the brightness.

I turned it off.

1. If you want to do that, go to System Settings > Displays.
2. If you do not see a list of the resolutions but only five previews, click on 'Advanced' button on the bottom and choose to show the resolutions as a list in the dialog which pops up. Then close that sub-dialog.
3. Choose to show all resolutions.
4. Select the resolution with the same horizontal pixel count, but lower vertical pixel count.

You now have a black bar on the top as it used to be on the old MacBooks before the notch was introduced.

On my MBP 16" it looks like that:

...
1920 × 1200
1728 × 1117 (Standard) <– notch
1728 ×1080 <– no notch
1496 × 967
...
