When not attached to magic keyboard do you use a case

I mainly only use it without the keyboard on the lounge so no need. I used a folio with my old 11” but didn’t have a keyboard case.
sometimes no, but I prefer the feel of holding it with the regular folio to holding it without.
This is what I do as well! Don't want to accidentally drop the iPad without any case!
I bought the Smart Folio from Apple that I use when I am not using the Magic Keyboard. I can’t say I’m totally happy with it. I got the dark blue one, and like the black MKB, it shows fingerprints and dust. I’ve only had it a couple of days and might send it back. I have used Fintie cases in the past, and they do not show marks nearly as much as Apple’s cases.
when I choose to travel without the MKB I use the magnetic Oxford case from Pandora and Quill.

Just ordered one and arranged return of Apple case and another I had ordered from Amazon.
Cost aside are there benefits to this over folio case?
Every once in a while I find a great deal on apple accessories on eBay
For one thing, it has a flap to protect the pencil from getting knocked off. For another (and I don’t have mine yet so I can’t confirm for this model), ones I have had in the past just do not show smudges like the Apple Smart Folio.
The pencil flap is nice and it folds back to stick magnetically to the cover to keep it out of the way, a little stiff at first but bends and sticks easier with use. I can only compare it to my Apple Smart cover I used on my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" and I do see less smudges. I would recommend this case to friends and family with confidence.

I *Hate* the material Apple uses on exterior of their previous iPad keyboards, Smart Cover, Magic keyboard (but whatever, the rest of magic keyboard is amazing and got a good deal). It’s mind boggling why they still do tbh, except maybe its a cash cow for people to buy multiple of the same product and doesn’t age well
That alone Is a deal breaker especially for the asking price, but even going on an eBay deal hunt.

Sounds like you’re after a a 12.9 judging by your comment though ‘not wanting to spend $100 on folio’ since I think the 11 inch is $75 for that one :
