I'm sure I have a similar setup to many that have "Automatic Downloads" turned on but do not have "Add Playlist Songs" enabled.
I do this because I don't want all the songs in an Apple curated playlist added to my library, but I do want them in my "Playlists" so that they are easy to find. With my settings choice, when I add an Apple curated playlist to my "Playlists" it downloads all of the songs, but does not add them to my library.
Now, I've always been suspicious of this in the past but have never been able to prove it mostly out of laziness. My question is, when an Apple curated playlist updates and some songs drop off the playlist, will my phone automatically delete the download along with removing it from the playlist? Or does the download stay on my phone in some "lost" location where it's not in my library but also not in any of my playlists?

So I just did a quick experiment and may have answered my own question.
I added an Apple curated playlist to my library, everything went to plan. The songs downloaded for offline playback but they did not add to my library.
Then I immediately deleted the playlist. The playlist was deleted from my list of playlists. But when I go to Settings->Music -> Downloaded Music the song is still showing up as downloaded. Even though now I cannot play the song as it's not in my library.
So it appears the songs remain downloaded and are just wasting space. Why would Apple do something like this? Is this a bug or intended use?
