when purchasing iLife 11

Do you have to buy the upgrade, if you have the version that came with the MacBook Pro laptop? Or do you have to buy the full version

There is no upgrade or full version. There is simply iLife '11. You can choose to purchase it from the App Store or as a boxed set, but it does not depend on what you have or don't have.
