We know the new M1X/M2 MBP will be announced in the next few weeks/couple of months, and that will likely have a new design, but when should we expect an updated/new and/or re-designed MBA?

I'm thinking of moving back from my Mac Mini (which is also due a new update shortly) to a laptop, and expect the new MBP to be out of my budget. If a new MBA is likely within the next 6 months, then I'll hold off, but if it's going to be another year then I'll just pick up a discounted M1 MBA/MBP.

I expect it to be sometime in 2022, and this Fall/Winter will be the new MacBook Pros time to shine. I also think the update will come with a price increase... like Apple usually does with fresh designs.

It's hard to say what the cadence of Apple cpus will be... iPads have been on a year and a half cycle. I expect we won't see much increase in core count for a while, and get improvements in single core performance and graphics.

Although the next Air will likely have a design that makes the old one seem ancient, the current Air is a good value with no downsides like previous Airs. Except the ports... if you can live with the ports I'd get one.

Is there something the current MBA does NOT do for you?
Apple said 2 years to update the entire product line, entry level done. We all expect mid level soon … that will require cooling (fans). mBA is now fanless, so next entry level update not for at least another year imho.

I've had the current gen MBA before and loved it, only moved to a Mac Mini due to working from home. Would happily go back to it, was more thinking ahead - if Apple was likely to release a new design of MBA early next year I'd rather just wait. But you're both right, the MBA does what I need it to and is very capable. Ports aren't a deal breaker at all.

Definitely leaning towards purchasing now.

My Guess is new MBA's with Gen 2 Apple Silicon and new colours and redesign is likely to be March / April 2022.
